Success after IF

Now I'm thinking it is not RLP after all

I think what I have is too bad to be RLP and I *think* my urine has a tinge of blood in it.

*Background:  I had two really bad UTI's in April right after my Dad died (which is relevant because I chalked the extreme abdominal pain up to being stress and bad eating at the hospital/funeral so I didn't go to the dr. for like 2 weeks).  I completed the first treatment and then 2 weeks later had another uti, with blood in my urine.  I had a bladder/kidney ultrasound which found nothing so I took another full course of antibiotics and was ok until my retrieval in July where I had blood in my urine again.  They treated me for a uti but both the test and culture came back negative.

Now, with this pretty constant lower abdomen pain, some in my lower back and the urine issue today, I'm thinking I have another infection, which of course is scary as heck with being pregnant but also-- wtf is going on with my body?!?  I know uti's are somewhat common in pregnancy but I never had one with G and I have only had one other in my life (in college, when I had a new boyfriend, so....do the math).  Trust me, there is no sex going on, I am almost 39 and know how to wipe.....why am I getting all of these?  Certainly there is a chance that's not it, but I'm pretty sure I'm right (I left a message with my ob to try to get in in the morning)

Anyone else have recurring UTIs?  Any advice??

  • I had a bacterial infection at 26 weeks that caused some cramping and discomfort. If you think you have an infection, you should go get checked out as soon as possible.

  • With DD#1 I had a UTI, things felt really "off" crampy like and I just couldn't ignore it.  So I went into L&D and it was a UTI.  I was less than 30 wks I think, not sure how much.

As far as coming back often? Not sure.

  • I think once you start getting UTIs you become more prone to them. Throw pregnancy into the mix and you miss as well throw in the towel. I had a UTI towards the end of my pregnancy with Henry and it was NOTHING like other UTIs the I have had. I actually felt sick...fever, chills, back pain. I didn't even have pain with urination, which was the usual top symptom with other UTIs.

  • I had several UTI's post-partum. I distinctly remember that the bacteria didnt' show up in the office test. It only showed up once they sent the test out to the lab, so... hopefully that's the kind you have. Hoping you get in to the doctor first thing tomorrow and get some meds quickly!

  • I just looked up RPL on webmd.. The post also got me thinking.. But mine is really just being tired and on my feet way to much. But I am so hyper sensitive the later I get in this pregnancy w all the IUGR issues I had w Jake.. anyway do you have a feaver, more sharp pains then dull ones, vomiting ect? Those symptoms were quoted over and over and associated w uTI.. I would def call your doctor either now or first thing tomorrow. Feel better..

. This! I just had my first and the doc warned me that it can happen more easily now.
  • I kept thinking I had UTIs while PG (both times, but worse with the twins), and it was always just painful urination.  They never saw any infection, but it hurt really bad.  Also, with the twins, I really struggled to pee at all.  I'd have to go really bad, but nothing would come out. It was awful for the last month or so.  I blogged about it a lot if you want to search "pee" in my blog.

Anyway, good news is I could pee like normal as soon as the babies were born (Well, like the next day)

    Ditto this.

I got my first one in college and proceeded to have seven over the the course of six months.  It got so bad and so frequent that my PCP started writing me an rx for antibiotics at my annual visit and I was able to treat myself.

Things have vastly improved over the last ten years or so, thank goodness!

I hope you get the pain figured out soon.

  • It could totally be a UTI ... def get it checked out, however I had what sounds kinda similar with my first and I got it checked on two different occasions and it wasn't a UTI ... no clue what it was.  I had all of the same symptoms I had had with previous UTI's ... abdominal pain, it was hard for me to pee (felt like I couldn't empty all the way), burned while peeing and afterwards, etc.
