C-sections

Panic Stricken

I am having a little (or a lot) of anxiety over my up coming procedure. I had a c-section 06/27/11 and everything was going beautifully until I decided that I needed to do stuff around the house to prepare for company a couple weeks after. My wound ended up re-opening and for the last 3 months my boyfriend has been stuffing the wound with special gauze to try and heal it. It has not gotten better and seems to be getting bigger. Due to developing diabetes during pregnancy (it stuck around after) I am a very slow healer. My OB has decided it is time to go in and re stitch as well as add a wound vac to get this healed. I am so afraid of being put under ( I was awake during the c-section) but also afraid of the wound vac all though I have seen on the web some comments and it doesn't look so bad now. I have an office job and really want to get back to work with in a week due to I have exhausted my pay while on maternity leave and really need the money. I have my own office so I am hoping the vac is something I can work with. But my biggest concern again is going under. I don';t know why this is freaking me out, maybe because I only have been put under once when I was 10 yrs old. There is no history of problems that i know of in my family I am just scared. I think it just makes it tough because now I have a beautiful daughter that I want to be around for. I lost my mom at 18 to ovarian cancer and I think that weighs on my mind. Sorry just needed to vent I know everything will be OK.

Re: Panic Stricken

  • Sorry to hear about all of your trouble. I understand the panic at the thought of being put under - I had similar anxiety when I was put under for surgery a few years ago. I think it's a completely rational fear - you're yielding complete control to other people and you have no idea what is going on or what will happen. It's scary. I burst into tears the morning of that surgery before they put me under, but woke up afterwards to find that everything had gone well.

Hugs, thoughts, and prayers to you. I hope that your procedure goes well!

  • Ill be praying for you.

I had to have surgery in March- not baby related. And it was scary just blacking out and waking up somewhere different. BUT remember that if you dont have this done you wont be up to taking care of your child. So its better to go in a little freaked. Express your worries to your doc, When I had my surgery they gave me something to calm me down, it helped a lot. Also have someone special go with you and that way youre not alone while you wait for the surgery to start, and in recovery.
