Does anyone's 3+ girl have one of these dolls? Do they play with them a lot? DD has a Cabbage Patch kid and one other doll, but mostly she plays with her ponies and other animals that she has. Most of our older neighborhood girls (6 and up) have AG dolls and push them around in strollers and such, and DD has been asking to take her stroller and doll outside too so she can be like the big girls.
I'm just wondering if these dolls are really worth the $$ or if we should just wait on it until she actually knows what they are and asks for one.
I never cared for baby dolls as a child and much preferred playing with my stuffed animals, and I actually think dolls in general are a little creepy but I don't want to force my opinions on DD.
Re: American Girl Bitty Babies/Bitty Twins
DD was given one as a gift and I'm leaving it in the box until she expresses interest. They may not even make Bitty Babies by the time she cares about it!
My nieces (9 and 10) love their American Girl dolls. But they also know and respect the cost of the dolls and accessories at their age! My 6 year old niece still loves her horses and other toys - has no interest in American Girl dolls.
I'd wait.
Santa brought younger DD a Bitty Baby and stroller last Christmas and she does enjoy playing with it. DD will be 4 in February. Her play goes in cycles though. Some weeks her doll is out every day while at other times she just ignores it. The girls received the Bitty twins from their grandparents as a gift but they have never really bonded with them. I'm not wild about the twins either - they just don't have the same appeal as the Bitty Baby or even the 18-inch dolls for older girls. This is just my opinion though.
One thing my daughter loves is dressing like her Bitty. She has the same pajamas and dress as her doll and loves it that they have the same clothes on. If you want a better feel for the sizing, fit and quality of these outfits for girls, read the online reviews. I found them to be very helpful when choosing clothes for my daughter.
AG runs something called Spotlight Savings each week, where they offer different outfits and accessories for dolls and girls at a reduced price. Also, keep an eye out for free shipping! They usually have free shipping twice a year and it's normally right around this time.
DD will be 4 in December and got a Bitty Baby and some accessories for her birthday/Christmas last year.
She LOVES it. It's her most played with toy. And she does have other baby dolls - for some reason this one is "special". I really think it depends on the kid though - I know girls her age who could care less.
She's not getting anything else bitty baby though - I thought about getting her more for this Christmas, but she has plenty - a stroller, a high chair, and some clothes. Considering the baby is mostly naked, it's fine.
I also have a regular AG doll stashed away for her. The 2008 doll of the year was Mia, which is her name, so I had to buy it. I thought she'd get it this birthday/Christmas, but given the way she treats the bitty baby (not badly, but just like a 3-year-old), it's going to be another year, at least.
I did this too! My DD's name is Elizabeth, so I have the 18-inch Elizabeth doll stashed away for her.
My DD is 3.5 and has a bitty twin and she loves it. We also have the little wagon and she uses that all the time.
I wouldn't get her the full size AG doll yet but the bitty twin I think is the perfect size for her.
My 6 year old loves her AG dolls and plays with them a lot. She has Kit and Rebecca. She loves the assessories and all that stuff.
My 4 year old son has a bitty baby. (Grandma couldn't stand not getting him something in the store--we took DD to eat with hers : ) He will play with DD with it and was so jealous of all the assessories that DD got for her 6th birthday.
I got my DD a girl Bitty twin (I wanted one with hair) after Christmas when she was 19 months old. My 2 SIL's and I took our 3 DD's to the store and made a day of it.
This Christmas she's getting a Look Like me doll, which is the larger 18 inch size. She's completely ready for the larger doll and I'm excited about the cuter and larger variety of clothes
My DD has 2 AG dolls and one Bitty Baby. To me the AG doll store experience is what makes the dolls so magical. Everything about that place is so amazing and is such a great mother/daughter trip.
She got the Bitty Baby as a gift and it is just another baby doll to her. The AG doll that looks like her she got when I took her to the store on her 3rd bday and we went all out with the lunch, photo session, salon. That doll has a story behind her and DD loves to look at the catalog and see what other "adventures" her doll can go on.
I love love love AG
DD loves her AG Bitty Twin and Bitty Babies, but she is really, really into dolls and doll gear in general. She loves changing them, feeding them in a high chair, taking them out for strolls, etc.
I've bought her other dolls over time, but the one she still plays with most is her bitty baby and second most is her bitty twin girl. We've been to the AG store and we get the catalogue and she has friends who have AG bitty dolls & big dolls and basically, she's just obsessed with the whole empire. Flame away, but I've encouraged the obsession by buying the stuff.
