Is your LO afraid of anything?

I was reading DS It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown the other day & the part where the Great Pumpkin is rising from the patch, but it's really Snoopy has a picture of a big black silhouette of Snoopy in the foreground. When we got to t hat page, DS's lip quivered & he started to cry! I thought it was a fluke, but then DS was flipping the pages himself & it went back to that page & he started to cry again! It was so heartbreaking, I felt like ripping the page out of the book right then & there! (Then I realized that the book cost like $15 & decided against it, lol)

He is also afraid of his FP Lil' Zoomers race track. I was so excited to get the batteries in thinking he was going to love it, but it makes racing engine noises & the track spins making like a grinding noise & DS got scared! This was about a month ago. And funny b/c MH thought that if DS was with him while he turned it on, he wouldn't get scared b/c "he is with daddy!", but nope! DS still cried, lol

Re: Is your LO afraid of anything?

  • DS is afraid of the vacuum. It's why my apartment gets vacuumed about once a month. I can't do it when he's awake and I can't do it when he's asleep because it will wake him up. I can only do it when DH is not traveling for work and one of us can take him out for a little bit.

He also freaked out when our neighbor's small dog got loose and DH tried to catch him while holding DS and the dog was jumping up at him, but I think that would scare most little ones. Even if the dog was only about half DS' size.

Oh, and he's afraid of the shower now. A couple times we've brought him in with us to give him a quick rinse and he gets really nervous.

  • Awwwww...that story is so sweet!  It would break my heart as well!  Poor little guy.  Jackson so far is such a dare devil.  He has no fear (which scares me).  I am afraid he is going to be a bully :O(  He won't even sit through a book...

  • He used to be pretty freaked out by the vacuum, but he's slowly gotten over that.

I used to only be able to vacuum when DH was home and could be playing with him in another part of the house/outside. But over the past couple weeks he seeems to be more curious about it than scared. If I put him in his walker he'll just follow me around when I vacuum.

  • She used to be scared of the vacuum but that seems better  now.  If it's quiet and DH or I cough or sneeze or yell something she freaks out.

  • DD has no fear, even of the edge of the bed or the couch.  She'd go right over if we'd let her.  She actually really likes to be scared.  We can sneak up behind her and go "Boo!" and she'll jump then smile and giggle.

  • C is scared of our cat. She normally hangs out in the basement but one day C and I were playing and I hear her scream a high pitched shreak. I thought she lost a limb or something horrific. Nope the cat had come upstairs and scared C. This happens everytime we go near the car. She grabs onto me for dear life and screams blood curdling screams, she also claws and runs in the other direction from the cat. I really hate to laugh but its so funny! Its the only thing that she gets that upset about. The poor cat just looks at her like WTF. LOL
  • The noise of the vacuum makes her cry hysterically.

See now DS is like this too- he doesn't fear going over the edge! And he has no problem climbing all the way up the steps!

And he loves the vacuum & dust buster- he chases them around making it impossible for me to really clean b/c he is always sitting right in the spot that I need to clean!

I was really surprised he was scared by the book considering his otherwise fearlessness!

  • Poor guy! hopefully he gets over it soon!  So far DS has only been scared of the vacuum and food processor but he's gotten over that (finally), he would jump and watch it warily but never cry.  For a couple weeks he has been scared of DH watching football.  DH is a huuuuge cowboys fan and he gets into the games, "coaching" the players, jumping up and down when they score and whooping, clapping for plays.  It is probably the most animated my DH is ever in life.  Anyways the first night he watched the game I was working and he said he scared the baby (who cried), I didn't believe him until the next week when we both started clapping and excitedly cheering for a touchdown and DS looked at us and burst into tears.  It broke my heart, well we are well into football season now and he has gotten better, no more tears, thank goodness.  But he isn't super happy when they score either, we tease and say he's rooting for the other team. ;-)

  • Charlie used to be afraid of the vacuum and applause. Random, huh? Now he's the opposite. He chases the vacuum around when we use it. Out of nowhere.

He's currently afraid of loud people. If someone comes up to him and gets in his face, its meltdown time.

And it's so funny because the noise from the vacuum is what used to point him to sleep in about 10 seconds when he was much smaller! Little weirdos.

  • She's afraid of the big bath tub. She loved it the first few times, but she was crawling around in it, slipped and her face went in the water. Since then she will cry and hold onto my neck for dear life if I try to put her in the bath tub :( She's starting to look ridiculous in her infant bath so I know I'll have to deal with the situation eventually.

  • Alexander was afraid of the pumpkins at the pumpkin patch!  And my MIL got that FP lil zoomers thing and that scares the bejeezus out of him too!

  • The coffee grinder. He shudders and looks scared unless I'm holding him while I do it. I try to do it at night while he's asleep, but can't forego coffee!

  • The bathtub without his bath seat.  I've tried two nights in a row to remove the bath seat since he doesn't really need it now, and both times he's screamed in a panic and tried to claw his way out of the tub.  Bath seat comes out and he's fine. ??  Not sure how to wean him off this one...

Other than that, he's a little daredevil bent on giving me a heart attack!  He doesn't seem afraid of much!

  • awww!

DS is mostly not scared of anything. Sometimes he freaks out when he sees my dad, though. He's sort of afraid of him and in awe of him. My dad is a really big guy so I wonder if that's why. He warms up eventually on each visit, though.

He's not a fan of the hair dryer; the sound is too much. DH was funny, he was like, "maybe he's just imitating it" 'cause DS was yelling while it was on. I try to dry it for as short as possible.
