Natalie - is it super popular?

Natalie is currently the only girl name my husband and I agree on (we are team green), however I can't help but wonder if it is the next Sophia due to the steady climb on the SS name charts over the past 10 years.

I know a handful of adults with the name Natalie, but I don't know any children so I would have to guess it is not super popular in my area-but then again I don't know many babies. We don't mind a common name, but we don't want a really popular name (a few other Natalie's in the school is fine, but not a few other Natalie's in the same class).

Any opinions?

I like the name Natalie and I don't think it's too popular at all! I think it's unique yet familiar to people.

I'm an elementary teacher and I've never had a student with that name and I don't know of any child with that name...and I know A LOT of children.

I love the name Natalie. I also work in an elementary school and I don't know any Natalies at all. This could vary by your area of course.

I think this is my husband and my top girl choice too. At least on this board, it gets completely positive reviews so that makes me think a lot of people might choose this name. I work at a school and teach two Natalies this year (out of 200 kids). It's always been popular, but not top 5. I hope it stays that way.

It seems relatively popular but it's no Sophia, it seems to be more of a steady popularity. In my area it's apparently one of the top baby names, but I haven't met any yet in my circle.

It's a really pretty name. I know of one Natalie a few years younger than me. It is definitely a nice name and think you would be safe to use it if you end up truly falling in love with it.

It varies by area but most of the Natalies I know are either the same age as me (in their 20s) or in their teens. I worked in daycare for years before having my son and know lots of children, and only looked after one little Natalie. I don't think it's super popular so would probably be a good option for you!

I love Natalie and Natalia. They have been on the top of my list for over ten years. My good friend is PG and due about 3 weeks before me. She is using the name so I am not. If we weren't such good friends then I would use it. Her DH is Nathan, so she is naming after him.

I want to say it's not that popular but when I really think about it, it is. It's not uncommon to meet Natalie's in their late teens early 20's around here. Also, one of my best friends just announced the name of her baby soon-to-be-born: Natalie. I feel like Natalie is the new Emily... has similar appeal.

I think Natalie is increasing in popularity. What about Natalia? I like to think of it as an updated, less popular version.

Natalia is on our short list. We're team green too. I like the nickname Talia also.

FYI- We do have one Italian friend whose daughter is named Natalia but I don't think they'll mind if we use it too. Haven't heard of any Natalie's (except one adult woman I know).

It's popular, but not super popular. It's no Sophia. Natalie is classic and beautiful. Go for it!

This is on our short list, and I am curious to see how popular it gets precisely because folks who like Natalie, but want to avoid the popularity, may opt for this name. I personally prefer Natalia though which is why it's on our list.

I have a friend named Natalie in her 20's and I've met one little girl who came into my bakery named Natalie, she was probably around ten.

Thanks ladies! You have reassure me that while this is not a unique name it is probably not going to become the next Sophia. I do love Natalia-I should see if I can convince my husband on that one!

Just wanted to add that my daughter is Natalie and the only other Natalie we have met exactly one other Natalie in her age group, and that was on a Disney cruise. We haven't met any at all in our area. I also get complimented on her name all the time.
