This is on a feeding issue and I'm hoping some of you have been in my shoes or have some advice to give!
I've got a call into my doctor for some questions, and it includes this one, but wanted some experienced mommy advice too...
Tests proved on Frit that my DD has a milk/soy allergy (blood in poo that I couldn't see but Doc tested it). They gave me some milk free formula. I thought..YAY! Our prayers have been answered! And then I opened the stuff up and smelled the stuff..oh my. I was/am nursing..however, they told me that it would take 2 weeks to get out of my system (all the dairy) and 2 weeks out of hers...but if I'm nursing her now, she is still getting dairy..Here's why this is an issue: I go to work in 4 weeks.
I do not want the lady that is keeping DD to have to deal with this and I would be worried about how the day is going! Also, I am BARELY able to pump enough for her to get in one day! I don't want our lady to have to teach her to take formula. It has so far been misery. So, I'm on a time crunch here. I have been trying the formula with DD and she will get down an ounce or so and then scream and cry. I don't know if this is because of her tummy, bottle, or hating the stuff. I try to refeed her the formula and she will gag or push her tongue out, etc. Then eventually she will fall back to sleep. Well, only an ounce or so isn't going to satisfy her and I don't want her to start losing weight!
She HAS taken breastmilk in a bottle a few times before and will down about 3 - 4 ounces while struggling (because of her hurting tummy). This is INSANE! What would you do if you were in my shoes??
1. Keep offereing the bottle with formula and eventually she will get hungry enough to take a bottle? And endure a few days of misery and screaming/crying?
2. Mix breastmilk (that still has dairy in it - even though I made DRASTIC changes in my diet the last 3 days) with a little formula? But the formula smell is SO strong that it probably washes out the breastmilk.
3. Just keep breastfeeding/pump and hope that dairy gets out of BOTH of our systems sooner than later!
*It's just so hard to see her upset and cramping and in pain. I would love for her to take the formula to see her relieved..even though I am kind of sad about not being able to breastfeed anymore.
I know this is long, but THANK YOU for your advice!
Re: exhausted! mentally drained! advice?...
I feel your pain. Seriously, I do. I have 2 weeks till I go back. I need to have the formula situation settled before I drop LO off for daycare! Arg!
I have been dealing with this since 3 weeks old. I did the elimination diet. Now, LO is almost 2.5 months old, and I can't do this anymore. I have been EPing since day 3, so, double that frustration. I am slowly switching to formula. I actually am giving soy a shot, as she didnt seem reactive to it when I challanged with my diet. So far, she seems a bit fussy, but then again- she just had shots, she isnt used to any formula, etc.
I would offer the formula mixed with BM, despite it being tainted with dairy. She is used to the taste of BM, and it will help transition better. You should see any improvement being off dairy for only a couple days. I sure did!
Good luck... You are not alone!!!
