I'm trying to meet a friend at a halfway point between her and I (both of us have babies about 2 months old) and I figured Baltimore was a good choice. I was looking for a place for both of us to walk around and chat and maybe grab some food - i stumbled on Patterson Park in Baltimore. I don't know much about Baltimore - has anyone been there? Is it a good place for two new moms? Is it relatively safe? Any advice appreciated!
Re: Patterson Park in Baltimore?
To be honest, Patterson Park wouldn't be my first choice in Baltimore. I think I would go to Federal Hill or if you really want to walk around, and don't mind the admission price, Fort McHenry. And I would also recommend the Baltimore Museum of Art, which is almost on John Hopkins campus, has an outdoor sculpture garden, and is free. The restaurant attached, Gertrude's, is always winning awards and has terrace seating if it's nice out.
Until she passed away, my grandmother lived two blocks away from Patterson Park. While I grew up playing in the park, it definitely has a completely different feel than the parks around here. It is an urban park in an evolving neighborhood. That being said, as long as you are aware of your surroundings and are out in the daytime, it is fairly safe. The park is pretty and has some great stroller-friendly trails. There are plenty of places to eat in Canton; Little Italy and Little Greece are only a few blocks away as well.
