Exersaucer Recommendation?

Hi Ladies,

My LO is almost ready for an exersaucer/jumperoo, but he's tiny for his age.  Any recomendations on models or brands that work well for our preemie peanuts?

Thanks!

Re: Exersaucer Recommendation?

  • We have the Baby Einstein around the world one. Its a little big for her but I think they all are. We just put a pillow under her feet and stuff blankets around her to help her stay upright since the seat is huge.

ETA-I did ask our OT about it and she said exersaucers are fine as long as the baby doesn't spend too much time in them. She also recommended putting a firm pillow under her feet so she is pushing on something firm rather than a blanket.  She said she prefers stationary activity centers because the baby can learn bad posturing and feet position from more mobile options and this is less of a concern in stationary centers.

  • We have this one:

JohnScott is just now starting to like it.  He's about 15 pounds and can sit unassisted for almost a minute without toppling over.  He's feet don't touch all the way, but he loves the music and other toys.

I haven't tried Hilyer in it yet.  He needs to gain more head control first.

  • Our developmental therapist recommended the Summer Stage 3 Seat - https://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-3-Stage-Super-Seat/dp/B000YZAG7I

At least for us, overextension was a potential issue, so the NICU followup clinic and our developmental therapist warned us to not use anything where feet would dangle (like a jumparoo) and/or he'd be in a standing position (like an exersaucer).  I think overextension is a fairly common preemie issue (and I've heard others recommend not to use exersaucers and jumparoos too much even with full term infants).

    Happy shopping!

  • I also have the baby einstein one and my preemie LOVES it!! I love the toys on this one much better the other ones too, and my son loves listening to all the music it plays and noises it makes. I thought he would be a bit to small for it but once I put him in there he LOVED it and did extremely well.
Baby Lukas-My miracle baby! 3 months preemie! Overcame 5 surgeries, 4 months in the NICU, 7 blood transfusions, PDA, chronic lung disease, 2 ventilars, 1 cpap, nasal prongs and then finally decided to breath on his own. Weighed in at 2lbs 6oz and now a *WOOPING* 20lbs at 9 and a half months old (6 and a half corrected)
  • We have this one:

I would NOT recommend it for a preemie - we got it before our son was born.  He's been ready for a jumperoo for about 3 months, but we've always had to put pillows underneath his feet.  At nearly 9 months (6 month adjusted), he STILL doesn't touch the floor without pillows.

We also have a Graco doorway jumper, and that works much better becuase its height off the floor is adjustable.  My son LOVES that and would spend all day in it if we let him.
