C-sections

Peeing after c/s....anyone else have to turn on a faucet to help you go??

I remember with my 1st c/s after they took the catheter out, it took me forever to pee.  I was like an old man w/ a prostate problem.  Pee two drops, stop, pee more, stop, finally pee like normal.......the nurse used to have to put on the faucet to help me GO.  This went on for maybe 2 weeks PP with the peeing, I feel like it took my bladder a long time to get with the program like normal!

Am i the only one?

  • This is a common issue after having a catheter removed, some people can't pee and have to have it put back in!  using the faucet makes you one of the lucky ones!

  • HAHA, i had this problem for a week after i had my laproscopy surgery. (i had been cathed over night). I normally have to flex my muscles to pee tho, it doesnt just fall out. i have really tight kegels i guess?? idk. it was just like before only i had to flex harder. i just had to sit still and usu held onto something for good support and flexed those muscles steady till it came out. thats all i could do. and it eventually went away. no worries : )
  • No but for some reason I needed the faucet on to go #2!  Crazy, I know.  I've heard of women needed the peri bottle of warm water squirted on them while they're trying to go to help relax.  But I hurt more on the inside when I peed, than my urethra where the catheter was pulled out.

  • The very first time I went without the catheter I had to turn the faucet on, but after that I was okay.
  • I only had to turn the faucet on the first time after they took my cath out, but sometimes I still have to 'work' at peeing.
  • totally normal to have issues with urination after a c section.  i could not pee normally for about 8days.

  • I remember having the opposite problem, actually. The first time I went pee they put some measuring cup in the toilet to measure how much came out. I have a very large bladder (when getting the AS with my son the ultrasound tech was actually freaked out and kept saying it was "squishing" my son and made me go and empty it so she could scan for bladder tumors, it was so big) and so I ended up overfilling the measuring cup. I tried to stop the flow to avoid making a mess- but couldn't. At all. Normally I have no problem clamping off mid-flow but this time it was impossible, the muscles just weren't responding.

I had to have it put back in 4 hours after they took it out because i was in SO much pain... 20 min later there were 2 liters in the bag!! It still takes me a few seconds to pee but it has gottne alot better.

  • This may sounds silly but it works.  When sitting trying to pee blow out your mouth slowly like you're slowly blowing out a candle.  For some reason it works every time.

  • Yes!  I remember just sitting there and the nurse waiting for me to pee.  she turned on the water for me.  It took a few seconds but I finally went.  That was the only time though.  I went fine after that.

  • I didn't need the faucet, but I never felt the urge to go for about a week and a half afterward.  I would have to remind myself to go to the bathroom - once I got in there all was well with no problems, I just never felt the urge to pee.
