I did some research on aspartame - the fake sugar in diet drinks and I have had mixed reviews. Most say it will not harm the baby and others say it will... I was wondering if anyone has asked their doctor about this.. I have switched to caffeine free and drink diet sprite, coke etc. but I would still like to know others opinions.. Thanks

Re: aspartame??
One of my friends who is pregnant claims artificial sweeteners increase the risk of premature labor by 20% or something. I don't know where she found that information or if its even based on actual research though...
Tomorrow is my 1st doctor's appt. and I'm going to ask her about it. I'm one of those people who needs to know WHY, just don't tell me I can't eat or drink *fill in the blank*!
DD born 3/23/2013; Baby #2 EDD 9/7/2015
everyone thinks i'm nuts but i swear i'm allergic to aspartame and sucralose-i've stopped eating/drinking anything with it in it if I can help it. For me it causes lots of headaches and stomach aches and i feel its pretty much poison-so needless to say i wont be having it!
and if you really want to avoid it-you have to look at like every label you'd be surprised how many things have it in it.

My miracle baby was born March 5 at 9:33am. He was 8 lbs 12.5 oz and 21.25 inches long!
My doctor said it was fine when I was pregnant with DS.
My MW says it's okay in moderation and I consumed it in limited amounts with my first pregnancy.
I much prefer the idea of real sugar however, I have 2 things working against me for real sugar. I have extreme bouts of hypoglycemia (even worse when I was pregnant with DS) - so anything that will spike my blood sugar will immediately crash it. And I am starting out this pregnancy at a higher than ideal weight. To the point that I am in the gain15-25 pound range instead of 25-35 pounds. (And since I made a 10 pound baby last time, that doesn't leave much room for extra weight for me.) I need to make all my calories count - empty sugar calories kill me.
So unfortunately I try to avoid both - which sucks for cravings. And I'm so tired of drinking water already that it's not even funny.
I am soo tired of water as well, I got the flavor packets that have real sugar in them but only like 2g of it and it helps me be able to drink water all day long..
I've been adding just a splash of real lemon or lime juice to help get me through.
Here are some sources I have found supporting the safety of aspartame:

That's not to say you should consume vast quantities of artificial sweeteners or that there is absolutely no impact on your child.
But ONE soda a day? Or a couple a week? I don't think you're causing your child any more harm than might be caused by exposure to any of various chemicals most people and babies are exposed to just by living in the modern world.
It's all about moderation.
In general, artificial sweetners should be avoided (even when not pg.) There isn't a lot of research on them yet and many are not heat stable (your body is hot.)
My nutrition professor said it's better to drink regular coke than diet, because it may be filled with sugar and calories, but diet is full of chemicals.
I avoid it if at all possible (especially aspartame.) I know a lot of ladies have issues with giving up caffeine, but take this as an opportunity to kick the pop (soda) habit for your own health as well. It's not good for you.

? PGAL/PAL Welcome ?
I've been doing it for 2 weeks tomorrow - since I got my BFP. It's not that I can't do it. I used to drink a lot of water. I just liked the options of being able to have something else (a diet soda, a cup of coffee w/ sugar, a glass of wine, etc) when I didn't want any more water.
