I broke my butt...

I feel like whining a bit. 2 weeks ago I missed a step and landed right on my tush. I was about 20 weeks at the time and went to the the doc and my baby girl is fine, thank goodness! I wasn't able to have an x-ray of course, but I'm pretty sure at the very least my tailbone is bruised very badly. I used an ice pack for the first 24-48 as hrs as suggested, and now I'm using a heating pad and sitting on a doughnut. I'm still not getting much relief. The doctor says there isn't much else you can do. I'm so afraid that if it heals it will break again during delivery. Anyone out there every had an injury like this before? Any advice?

  • I broke my tailbone snowboarding. It hurt more than my 24 hour non-medicated labor! haha

I actually went to the chiropractor and he helped me a lot with it. Unfortunately with a tailbone break/injury, you kind of just have to let it heal on it's own.

  • I fell down the stairs on my butt during my last pregnancy. Other than it being extremely painful to sit for about a week, there were no other problems. There was no reoccurance of the pain during labor. Hope you feel better soon.

  • My Mom broke her tailbone when my brother was a NB.  I was 6.  I STILL remember her crying as she stood up and sat down.  I would stand there, holding my brother.  It was Awful.  I'm 38 and I still remember....  GL...  I know that just bruising it can be really bad, too.  And they really can't do anything for it, other than pills and the donut;0(

  • Oh....and I should mention that my tailbone injury didn't really hurt during labor- but I have having back labor so I wouldn't really know the difference! Hahaha!

  • thanks, i hope so too!
  • I broke my tailbone during the birth of my DS and the unfortunate news is there is not much you can do. painkillers, ice or heat help and the donut. I also saw a chiropractor as well to help. But my son was born 14 months ago and I still have issues with it now. It takes a VERY long time to heal. Im sorry that you hurt it though, it really does suck!

  • I fell down the icy steps on my porch last winter and landed right on my tailbone.  I won't lie... it hurt for months after.  Honestly, even now, if I move just right, I can feel a twinge.  They x-rayed me at the time and didn't find a break, but the doctor even said that if it WAS broken, there wasn't much they could do about it.

I'm so super paranoid of falling now.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that while pregnant.  I know that must've been so scar for you!

  • I fractured my tailbone really bad when I was in 6th grade. Doc gave me a cortizone injection between the bones, 1 every 6 months. I only allowed for two. i'm wondering if thats what the epidural is going to feel like. fast forward a good 10 years I finally went to the chiropractor for my back and with the xray he said that after a while the tip fell off and is just rolling around back there. I catch it every once in a while when I sit down. wonder how that is going to play out during labor.

  • I'm even more paranoid now of falling. I'm not excited for winter, I'm already nervous!
