Middle Names for McKinley and Miller

So, we're going to be one of those "M" name families! I'm Meg, DH Matt, and this is our first! If it's a girl, we're naming her McKinley. If it's a boy, we think Miller or Makai. I want the middle initial to be D... because of family tradition. However, our last name is 4 syllables, so I feel like the middle name needs to be short. My husband wants the nickname MJ for the boy. I like untraditional names like

McKinley Day

McKinley Dawn

McKinley Della

Miller Joshua

Ideas are appreciated!

  • Miller was my maiden name. It is a boring last name. It is not a first name. While you may think that this could be a "untraditional" first name, it is one of the most common last names. Just check a phonebook, there are pages and pages of Millers. You won't be doing your kid any justice by naming him Miller.

  • HELLO! These are all last names that are now first names:

Madison, Jackson, Elliott, Jameson, Bailey, Brady, Spencer, Blake, Monroe, Emerson, JeffersonCarter, Cooper, Reagan, Kennedy, Taylor, Bradley, Sullivan, Sawyer... Should I go on?

  • I am lurking from tri 1. I like your names. Yes, traditionally those might be last names but they are not bad first names either IMO. Finding middle names that flow good is hard. I really want to use my mothers middle name if we have a girl but we can't think of a middle name. My 2 boys are Bryce Patrick and Owen Benjamin. His time a boy will be Seth Thomas and a girl will be Elise ____?

Good luck with the middle name!

  • Mckinley is my cousin's son's first name.  And, actually, it is a very old name.  It was his father's grandfather's name.  Not made up.

  • McKinley is also a beautiful mountain in Alaska :)) I could be partial to it though, too, my little girl's name is Makenlee (Ken is my FIL's name, Lee is my father's name, he passed away and we wanted to honor him), so of course i love it! We also chose a 1-syllable middle name as well... I wanted her middle name to be Brooke, i think it sounds nice together... my DH chose her middle name instead (it's Faith), which i still like! So Brooke is my vote for a middle name, or Rae.

Some people may not be partial to the name Miller, oh well if they aren't, but i can't personally think of a middle name that would sound good with it... I also like Makai. If you really want to keep those names but can't think of a middle name, you could always make one of those the middle name and think of a new first name... I'm having a boy this time around and find it much harder to pick a name then i did for my little girl... GL!

ETA: Just realized you're looking for a "D" middle name... sorry! Maybe McKinley Denise, Diane..... ? Miller David?

  • Why not just not have a middle name?  Sounds like you have a mouthful already, a MN isn't required...

But I like PP, McKinley Rose, and agree with earlier post that these are last names!

So I'm not a lot of help am I?!

  • Please don't name your child McKinley Day. That sounds like a law firm. If you've been injured, call McKinley Day LLP.

  • I would suggest switching your names and using those McKinley and Miller names as Middle names. I like Dawn and Joshua as first names though.
