For those of you that have lo's in daycare do you pay a set rate for the week regardless if lo is there or not? Dh pays $176.00 for four days for our ds. Ds didn't attend daycare on Monday due to Columbus Day and I have a day off during the week and I was off on Weds. So ds really only went the min which was three days but dh was charged the 176.00. Should I say something? They knew I was going to have a day off during the week and I was just told that he would just have a three day min, which I said was fine but should I have to pay when ds is not there. TIA
Re: Daycare ? ( XP Working Moms )
My daughter was on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and I still had to pay the full rate. It's a rip off but I guess they have to pay people even if your child doesn't come.
No doubt! They better pay me
LoL
I also pay $64.80 for my 5 year old to go there after school. 2:30-5:45. So total for the week is 240.80.
Daycare prices are completely regional. I have heard of some places by me being $400 per week for an infant.
we're charged a full week whether they attend or not, holidays or not.
It sucks because MLK, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas weeks suck. My daycare is closed xmas eve, xmas, tgiving and black friday so when those fall on week days we pay full rate for 3 days of care.
they do give us 2 holiday weeks a year where we don't have to pay if we don't send them.

Haha- we pay ~$410 per week, and we pay whether she goes or not (they have waitlist about 45 kids long, so if we don't want to pay full-time, someone else will). This is for the Baltimore area and is a typical amount for daycares in the city.

I can pretty much guarantee you all the papers you signed have your answer.
Most daycares are closed on certain days. Your paperwork will say that. You must still pay for it. If your LO is sick or your family goes on vacation, you pay for that too.
It wouldn't be fair otherwise. It isn't like they can take a baby in off the street for a day.
I am surprised you were surprised by this...
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

It doesn't state in the paperwork that we would be charged for closed days. It does say a three day min tho. Thats about it. I have no issue paying for the holidays that he is not there.
Some daycares in our area give vacation days, but our's doesn't. We pay $173/week regardless. We had one week where DH was sick for 3 days so we had to pay the full rate for 2 days!
The only perk I have is I'm a teacher and won't have to pay for summer. I do have to pay Christmas and Spring Break though, but I'll probably send him during some of those days, just for routine/consistency purposes since we have to pay anyways.

This is very standard. Our center will prorate once they get into their toddler years, but most center infant rooms are their big money makers.
And I agree with PP also that $176/week is cheap. We pay much more than that...
Like some others that have posted here, I pay $400 per week for EACH kid. Whether they are there or not. The only "break" we get is that if we are out for the full week (with prior notice), our rate is 50%. We get 2 of these weeks each year for vacation/etc. Though it's not like I can afford to go on vacation with these daycare prices!
I am just outside Baltimore too. DS attends 3x per week for $180 but full time would be $300. That is for licensed in-home care, not a center. We found that to be on the low to middle end of things!
Wow, at $3200 a month you might as well hire a nanny and atleast have the convenience of not having to pack up the kids.
Ask her where she lives.
Cost-of-living is different all over the country, people.
Again, ask her where she lives.
East coast v. West coast. Different ball game completely.

We are in the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley, though neither DH nor I are in tech jobs. I think we'd just about break even between daycare and a nanny at this point, but with a nanny it would just be the two boys. Since both DH and I work full time, we can't take them to many mommy's group type activities since those are mostly during the workday, so I like the socialization aspect of daycare.
From what it sounds like, you are doing exactly what works for your family. Kudos.
I just don't care for the "OMG! Those daycare costs!" when they don't take in the economics of it all.
From my research, I think that's pretty normal. LO's daycare allows for 2 weeks (10 days) of "vacation credits" each year so I can get refunded for days she's out due to sickness or actual vacation, but I don't think this is the norm in daycare. Sorry
