Trouble TTC

Confused about Unclear BBT Results & Irregular Spotting

Hello All,

This marks my first post on The Bump, and I'm hoping to gather some insight from either those TTC or those who are (or have been) pregnant.

This last month was my first month charting my BBT (8 months of TTC with my husband after going off the pill), and the results were a bit confusing.

I noticed a temperature spike on day 24, (and drew my cover line from that), but my temperature dropped back below the cover line on day 28. On day 30, I had very dark brown spotting, and over the course of the following two days, I had intermittent light spotting (one day of "old" looking brownish blood, and one of reddish blood). Following those 3 days of spotting, there was no blood.

A typical period for me (which ranges from 26-36 days, but comes every month) includes light red spotting on the first day, followed by 3-4 regular flow days, and concluded by a day or two of light spotting.

Without fail, I always experience very tender breasts in the week leading up to my period, but did not experience tenderness at all this time around.

This morning (day 35), I tested negative with a First Response home pregnancy test.

Could this have been a chemical pregnancy?

Does the fact that my BBT was above the cover line for 4 days mean that I did in fact ovulate, but my luteal phase is extremely short?

What are the next steps we should take? Another month of charting BBT, or should I make an appointment with my OB/GYN?

I would really appreciate any insight!

  • Do you chart on paper or on the computer? I'm having a hard time picturing what you mean without actually seeing your chart. Can you link it here? Also, this board is mostly (not all, but mostly) women (and men) with a dx and in treatment cycles. I know I personally don't chart anymore because of that. You may have better luck getting responses on TTGP. GL.

  • Thanks for your reply! I will re-post on TTGP.
  • As far as I know from the book, "Taking Charge of your Fertility," cenception is followed by 18 straight high temp readings.
