would you get a new infant car seat?

we have a graco snugride that we purchased in 2008. it has lasted through two children, long trips, and multiple plane rides.

we are expecting baby #3 in the spring.

due to car seat configuration, this infant seat will be behind the driver's seat.

can you give me some advice...

would you upgrade the infant car seat for a newer model? one with side impact protection? or just because of the age and wear of the seat or because car seats are made safer after nearly 4 years...?

I would check the expiration date on the side of the seat. If it's still good, and the seat has never been in an accident of any kind, I would keep using it.
If it worries you, though, and buying a new one isn't a financial burden, it might just be best to get a new one.

This, even though this will probably be our last LO, we replaced the seat because it was "expired". We probably could have just used it, but I felt better replacing it.

I agree with the PPs. Unless the seat has expired or has been in an accident, I'd keep it.

I think because it's an infant seat, as long as it's not expired, I would keep it. If it was a convertible seat, I might think about getting a new one. My mom said that my little sister (the third kid) could wiggle out of the straps of the carseat when she was a toddler. The straps of the car seat were old and stretched out!
