Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone else have this issue? Not falling asleep on their own.

Last night I (and the girls) attempted to stay the night at my moms.  This was a practice run because my mom is watching the girls in a couple weeks (they will be sleeping over).  dd2 went to sleep in my arms around 9:30pm.  Then woke back up at 10:30pm.  She took 4oz and fell sleep again.  I put her down in the pack n' play.  She woke back up immediately and started to cry.  She took another 4oz and fell sleep.  I put her down again in the pack n' play.  She started crying again.  At that point I went and washed some bottles hoping she would fall sleep on her own.  She eventually got so upset, started coughing and then got sick.  With dd1 I could put her to bed while awake and she would fall asleep on her own but dd2 is different.  This happens at home as well.  I've tried numerous different times to put dd2 down while she is awake but she gets upset she starts coughing, then throws up.  I've done the "go in the room every few minutes to console her (not hold her)" but she won't calm down.  I'm sure as for last night she was not comfortable with her surroundings which made it even worse.  Oh yes, I drove home last night at 1am and put her in her crib, she fell sleep right away.  Has anyone had this issue?  What did you do so they would fall asleep on their own?

  • I have the same issues with Max.  Unfortunately, I don't have the answer...yet.  DH and I take bets on how many times he'll wake up and need to be put to bed before he will actually stay there.

My LO rarely falls asleep on his own...I have to wear him in a carrier or hold him and he falls asleep. Once asleep though I can put him down anywhere.

If your mom is taking care of them soon, maybe just have her stay at your place do DD2 can sleep in her crib?

That is exactly what we discussed today.  Have my mom stay at my house and then dd2 is in her own surroundings.  :)

  • We are having the same issue, our DD can't yet put herself to sleep.  She actually did put herself to sleep twice when she was about 3 months old.. I think it was a fluke because she hasn't done it since.  We have to nurse or rock her.

  • We let ds cry until he fell asleep.  It really only took us 6 minutes though.  (we were up to 2 hours rocking him, laying him down, etc.)  He has been able to put himself to sleep since then.  Dd can sometimes go to sleep, but most often is nursed or rocked to sleep.  It only takes us less than 10 to get her down.  Is your mom opposed to rocking her to sleep?  Are you making the pnp "like home"?  (we put the same lovies and blanket underneath her, and sound machine, etc.
