I read some articles and was told by the nurse on our hospital tour that the Bundles Me's or anything you put between a baby and the car seat is not safe for the baby in case of an accident. Has anyone heard anything similar?
Yes, you are not supposed to put anything "extra" in the car seat. Of course, lots of people do. We got something similar to this instead of the Bundle Me, and it worked great. It goes over the seat, so doesn't interfere with space between seat/baby/straps at all. DS was an October baby and we used it all winter, worked great.
I've heard that as well, and also that it supposedly voids the warranty on the car seat. The former safety issue was more important to me (the same reason you're not supposed to put kids in puffy coats in the car seat) so we wound up going with a shower cap type cover.
We used this one for our December baby and it has the added bonus of a flap that you can pull up to keep germy strangers from poking their hands in your baby's face.
I remember hearing/reading the same thing. We ended up using a folded up receiving blanket to cover DD through her first winter and that worked just fine except for the longest walks.
Yes, I think that the Bundle Me's are fine for strollers but I would never, ever use one in the carseat. The nurse is right, you should never put anything in between the baby/child and their carseat.
Blankets worked fine for us and I like the idea of the shower cap thingie, too :-)
I used the same cover as Belizeitornot and LOVED it too. I just gave one as a gift to a new mom. In addition to safety, it was so easy to take on and off during fall and spring when not every day is cold enough to need it, or when it was cold in the morning but warm in the afternoon.

I LOVED our bundle-me and used it with both kids. It is especially awesome in the stroller.
