There are about a million different car seats, strollers, high chairs, pack n plays, you name it. How do I find out which one is best? Are there any specific websites I can look on, or is it more just word of mouth? I at least need to start thinking about registering, and I have no idea where to start... it's very intimidating to me!
Do they have this stuff on consumer reports? My husband uses that a lot, but I don't know if baby stuff would be on there. I think more men use that than women (although I have looked on there for stuff in the past) so I don't know that the dads are going on the website to give their feedback about baby stuff.... but I could definitely be wrong.
What are you using to find out what's best for your little one?
Re: How do I know what is best? Registry....
I'd recommend the Baby Bargains book. They review EVERYTHING and at the end of each chapter they rank the highest scoring ones as "good, better, or best."
This is awesome for indecisive first time parents like DH and myself.
My thoughts EXACTLY. We used it for everything last time around. I recommend it to everyone.

I LOVED Baby Bargains!
I used that as my base and then also looked stuff up on Amazon.
On the flip side - I did not value word of mouth as much. Just because my friends like their carseat/stroller/whatever, does not mean its the safest/best option available.
Baby Bargains is up-to-date. They just came out with a new edition of the book this year- and they probably up-date the web-site all the time. I used that book to narrow down my choices to between 1-3 and then looked at the reviews on amazon to make my final decisions.
Someone posted this link in a similar post a few pages back. I read through the majority of this last night and found it to be very helpful!

I just looked at reviews on BRU, Target, and Amazon's websites. At least for the big stuff anyways (carseat, stroller, pnp, high chair). Though you do have to take some of the reviews with a grain of salt - some complaints people had about things were definately taste specific and not related to safety issues. And some stuff we just picked what we liked and didn't pay much attention to the reviews.
It's very up to date, they just came out with the new version this year. The one I linked in my earlier post is the newest one, the 9th edition.

My BFP Chart
I am using multiple places/sources. First of all friends/family with children are amazing! They will give honest unbiased feedback. Next I am looking at amazon and other places where consumers can review items.
I also went into the store to look at the items (stroller, high chair, etc.) sometimes the pictures are deceiving; as well as I'm a -see-touch-feel consumer. I want to see if it's as easy to push as the reviews say, etc.
