  • from your pic you look petite, if you bmi is considered below average you are supposed to gain more, I wouldn't say there is really a normal everyone gains different and some people focus on gaining less.  I am 16 and up 3, my goal for 24 is 11lbs, so you are not that far off and like I said mine is just a goal, doesnt mean i will meet it.

This sounds like the same rate of weight gain I had with my second child, DD, overall I gained 35 pounds which is pretty normal.  With my first, DS, I gained 45 total (probably indulged in a few too many pretzel bites and other cravings, lol).  This third LO weight gain is much slower, I'm up 7 pounds at 23 weeks but I also have two other children who I am chasing after and love eating ALL of mommy's snacks, haha.  The baby will gain what it needs, and regardless of what I gained with my other two children, it was all off by the time they were five months - good luck!

  • Don't worry about it.  I asked at my OB apt. about how much I should be gaining (I am overweight to begin with), and they said that it's not really about how much you gain, as long as your uterus is measuring correctly.  It's supposed to be the same number of centimeters as the number of weeks you are.

The Dr. also said that it's more important to gain if you start out really small, so I think you're fine.

I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow, and I've gained 8 lbs.  I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Try this website, it has a lot of information about weight gain and it also will break it down to what each thing/part weighs.

    Healthy weight before pregnancy:

    • 1-4.5 pounds during the first trimester
    • Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the second trimester
    • Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the third trimester

  • 32 lbs at 22 weeks for me. ugh.
  • I am at the 6 month mark as well - and have gained somewhere between 18 - 20 pounds ( although it's hard to tell cuz I NEVER weighed myself before being pregnant ) But... that being said ~ I would have guessed I fluctuated somewhere between 120 and 125 ... at my last OB appointment last week ~ I was up to 143.  I was a little freaked out - But my doc assured me I was right on track ~

I dont mind the belly gain --- but JEEZ ladies my A$$ doesn't even begin to RESEMBLE my prior booty... I can't STAND it!  :(

Anyway... this website was helpful in determining your BMI based on your height and weight... then it spits out a little graph as to where your weight gain should be at each monthly juncture.

  • If your OB doesn't seem worried, I wouldn't either. I was going to freak out at my last appt because I was 19 wks and up 15lbs. But then I thought about the fact that so much of my weight gain is in my boobs lol. I have gone up 4 cup sizes so that accounts for sooo much weight. I did the math and felt much better. so, if your boobs have grown exponentially, that 18lbs is nothing :-) It may be a faulty way to look at it but it is better than stressing over weight; I know someone who thought she was gaining too much weight and stopped eating like she should, she ended up in the hospital because she wasn't getting enough nutrition and it turns out, her weight gain had been perfect all along

  • I have 24 pounds at 25 1/2 weeks.  Can't wait to have him and feel normal again.

  • Totally normal-especially if you were smaller to begin with.  I've gained 16 lbs at just over 15 weeks.  Yikes!

  • I'm thinking at this my appointment coming up this week, I will have gained about 15lbs @ 23 weeks. When I went in @ 19 weeks, I had gained 9. I'm definitely looking pregnant! I dont think there's anything to worry about. I read the pregnancy week by week book and you seem like you're right on track.
