Wish lists

What are your thoughts on a wish list for LO's birthday/Christmas? (It won't actually be for Christmas but with their birthdays so close if we get them posted early enough it can serve as dual purpose). My Stepmom just told me I should do this for JT's birthday...

yeah or nay? And I should add, I don't think we'll be inviting any friends, our family is too big so with family tacky things just aren't as tacky IMO. What do you say??

Re: Wish lists

  • I made one on Amazon because I have so many ideas of things I want to get her.  I figure if family or close friends ask what she wants I'll give them ideas and let them know that I made a wish list if they wanted to check that out for ideas as well.

  • IMO, it's only tacky if you put it on the invite. I have a running wishlist of things for myself and for DD... mostly so *I* can keep track of things to buy. If someone wants to put something off it for me, more power to them!

  • I think it's a know your audience thing. I mean if your family wants it and doesn't care then go for it. My MIL always asks for a list (and gives us one) So last year I just copy and pasted a bunch of stuff & their websites to an email and sent it to anyone that asked.

I used to think it was tacky but I don't see what the big deal is now, especially when people ask. I don't think it's cool to do the registry thing and send it out to EVERYONE saying this is what LO (you know the 10 mo) wants for Christmas/Birthday!  My cousin did that two years ago and I gave major side-eye since I'd never met the kid and she certainly didn't send mine anything for Christmas/birthday.
