baby monitors and white noise

Hi all! We have a safety first monitor that we use when LO is napping, but all we really hear is the white noise we play so that he'll sleep. I sit in a room where I can hear his (really loud) scream and keep the door open, but I'd like a monitor that picks up his voice so I can watch TV or play music or cook and still hear him. Anyone else have this issue or suggestions?

    Does that monitor not pick up his voice as it is?

    I have the Sony monitor from Target.  I hear the white noise, but I also hear DS when he starts fussing.

    The sony one i have is voice activated (has that option or regular).  It doesn't pick up the white noise if I have it on voice activated.

    I'm assuming they mean the Sony Baby Call. We have it and I love it so much I plan to get a second for DD2.
