I introduced myself yesterday and have a question today. When I was at my appointment yesterday (while bleeding heavily and cramping) my cervix was closed. I thought that gave me hope until the ultrasound showed no baby in the sac. The sac was still there though. Since my cervix is closed does that mean I won't pass the sac naturally or does that not matter?

Re: Question regarding closed cervix and miscarriage
*ticker warning*
I'm sorry for your loss. I had a closed cervix, but I took cytotec (which is supposed to open it) three times & thought everything passed. At my f/u appt, my dr did a pelvic exam & had to open my cervix more, but said it looked like everything passed. Well, 2 weeks later I went back because I was still cramping & everything was actually still there, but still no baby. My point is when you go back for a f/u, get an u/s to make sure.
Just because your cervix is closed now doesn't mean it won't open on its own. I started m/c naturally, and (warning) I was profusely bleeding. My doc examined me and siad my cervix was still closed. Her partner did a D+E that afternoon for me, where they manually dilate your cervix. She did tell me that if I chose to conitnue to m/c naturally, my cervix would dilate on its own. HTH, and so sorry you're going through this awful situation.
First of all, I am so sorry for your loss.
We found out we had a "missed miscarriage" this past week; I had had no symptoms that anything was wrong, no bleeding, still nauseated etc. My cervix was closed when we scheduled a D&C....I couldn't take waiting knowing it could take days or weeks (my midwife said even months) to m/c naturally. However, taking the cytotec before the procedure (which causes dilation of the cervix...it's used as the abortion pill in some countries....) caused it to start, and I began bleeding about an hour after taking it. My surgeon said that all the D&C was going to do was what my body would do naturally given time....so, even though your cervix is closed now, it doesn't mean you won't have a m/c "naturally".
GL OP, and again, I am so sorry you are going through this.
So sorry for your loss. I suffered a m/c last week. My cervix was closed for the first 5 days while I was miscarrying. On day 5 my dr did an exam and told me my cervix was still closed and within 20 mins I was bleeding so heavily that I had to be rushed to surgery for a D&C where they had to use instruments to open my cervix. In spite of the scare and the mechanical opening of the cervix, I have no pain. I never had any cramping and had pretty much stopped bleeding 3 days post op.
I hope your body co-operates and you are through the physical portion of this horrible experience sooner rather than later. Emotionally, it's a whole different thing, but you already know that.
