1st Trimester

Line test positive/digital negative

Okay... let me start with saying I know I took a lot of tests.

This morning with FMU I took a cheap online test. It came out negative. Mid day I ended up dizzy and nausus again, which has happened the past three days. When my husband came home today around 4 he suggested I take another one. So I took another online cheapie and an e.p.t blue line. Both had a very faint positive. We were nervous/excited/hesitant. So I scrounged through the the bathroom cabinet and found a digital (From our last pregnancy). It wasn't expired so I took it.

It said negative. So... two line tests said positive, digital says negative.

Thoughts?

*This his not our first pregnancy, but we've never experienced this*

Re: Line test positive/digital negative

  • The digitals aren't as sensitive.  Take another test tomorrow.

  • Wait a couple more days and then take another digital.  This happend to me too.  The ICs are much more sensitive than the digitals.

  • Same thing happened to me. I was getting positives on line tests for a couple of days before the digital confirmed. The line tests are more sensitive than the digitals. Good luck! :)

  • I hope and pray for you that this is not the same situation, but this did happen to me a week and 1/2 ago and I ended up having a chemical pregnancy.  I took 7 tests between Saturday and Monday, all positive.  But then I took a digital on Tuesday and it was negative. ( But the FRER were still faint positives but getting lighter)  On Wednesday, I woke up to AF and negative tests.

The reason I am telling you this is not be a negative person, but when I had this same exact question on this board a week ago, I got mainly posters who said "Yay, your pregnant!" "Congrats to you!"  etc. etc.  But there was one loan person who said, "I wish someone had said this to me, but it could be a C/P."  I really believe that helped me, because I knew what it was right away.  It did not make it any easier, but at least I knew what was happening.

I honestly don't think that's what happened to you, sounds like you may have to wait a few days.  How many DPO are you? The other posters are right, the digitals are not as senstive and take a few days after missing AF to show up.

GL to you!! I hope to hear an update soon that you confirmed the pregnancy with a digital! :):)

  • I really appreciate the honesty- thank you- no I don't take it negatively. We've been through a lot this year with 3 losses, we're not interested in false hope!

I took a first response line test this morning- light positive. Clear blue digital- Negative. I believe I am only 9dpo, which is why I'm trying not to put too much stock into it yet. I never had this issue with the other three though.

  • Yah that's what happened to me, first response were positive, digital was negative.  BUT, you are only 10DPO now, that's very early!  The digital is not as sensitive, so I suggest waiting until the day you are supposed to get your period (hard I know!) and take the digital then.  You will have more answers when you get your period or you don't.

Someone had this post last week as well, and I chimed in to give my two cents, and she posted a few days later that her digital finally came back PREGNANT!! I hope this happens for you, sounds like it will! :) GL

  • At 10dpo, I got a + on an IC, a + on a FRER, and a - on a digital.  Because of my previous losses, they got me in right away for betas.  On the afternoon of 10dpo, my HCG was 12.5.

The next morning (11dpo) I took a digital and got a positive.  (And by 12dpo my HCG was up to 65.)

I have also been down the chemical pregnancy route twice in the last 6 months where the line tests were positive and the digital tests never were.  But that isn't necessarily what is happening with you.  The line tests can pick it up much earlier than some digitals.

  • You are definitely still really early! I got my BFP at 10 DPO....and to by disbelief, I got a light (like barely visible) like on a FRER first thing in the morning...so I held it for a few hours and took another and it had a really faint line (again beryl visible) so I decide to use a digital and there it was "PREGNANT" I couldn't believe it! So there is definitely a chance...take another in a few days! Keep us posted! Good luck!

  • I tested with First Response Early Response and had the faintest of lines.  I continued to test for a few days but even then, my digital said negative.  So this isn't uncommon.  If you keep testing you'll eventually get the digital to say positive.  Of course you can always call your doctor for betas to be done too.
