I started pumping to get ready to go back to work, and noticed I had a ton of milk! I thought this was great, until DD started reacting very differently to bottle feeding. She's 5 weeks, cries and fusses a lot, acts like she doesn't "like" the milk, has frothy bm's, and throws up at least once a day. She really had none of these symptoms when we were EBF.
I have read how to block feed, but what do I do with the other breast when block feeding? Won't she only get foremilk the next time she goes to that breast?
Also, how do I know when pumping that I'm getting foremilk and hindmilk? Is there a way to know? How do I regulate this when I go back to work?
I'm so frustrated and feel so guilty, like somehow it's my fault and almost to the point of tears every time we feed. Any help would be great, thank you!!!
Re: Help with overactive supply please!
If you block feed, you are just using one breast for a certain number of hours. If your unused breast becomes engorged you can pump it to relieve the pressure.
When pumping you will notice a difference in thickness/color of the foremilk and hindmilk. If you have a majority of the foremilk it's going to look watered down and if it's the hindmilk it will be thicker like cream. The difference between fat free milk and whole milk ;-) It will naturally regulate so don't stress about it.
My DS had many different poops when I was learning how to pump, don't feel guilty. He's still getting the best out there. You're doing great!
Thank you!! I really have no support or "btdt" friends or family members so it gets really frustrating sometimes! And Google is your best/worst friend ever lol.
