Isn't it the truth that each baby is SO different! When we sleep trained baby #1 at 6months old it took 3 days and he's been sleeping 12 hours straight through the night ever since. We did a modified CIO and each night got easier and easier.
Well, little miss baby #2 has other plans. We do the SAME EXACT CIO method, however, she doesn't CIO when going to sleep. I put her down (along with a strict bedtime routine) awake, but drowsy, every night at 7pm. She puts herself right to sleep without any fussing.
She wakes up at 8:45pm, 11pm, 12pm 2am and 3:30am. And it's that blood curdling, someone just cut off my arms cry. For the first 3 wake-ups, I can get her back to sleep by going in and comforting her, but the last 2 are brutal. She just cries and cries and cries. She won't stop - and last night it went on for almost 2 hours. Finally, at 3:30am I nursed her and she went back to sleep for good (well, until 7am).
What am I doing wrong?
Re: Sleep: I need it. I need help.
Here is her current schedule:
7-8am'ish: Wake up
8am: Nurse
8:30am: Solids
9:30am: Nap
10:30-11am - Up from nap
12pm - Nurse
12:30pm - Solids
1:00pm - Nap
2:30-3pm - Up from nap
4pm - Nurse
5pm - Solids
6:30pm - Start bedtime routine (bath, nurse, jammies, story, lights out)
7pm - In crib - asleep.
I don't think she's hungry as I give her a full nursing session before she goes down. I dress her in her long-sleeve foot jammies, with a sleepsack. Her room is always about 70 degrees - so she's not cold. Maybe too warm? We tried the white noise a few weeks ago and that didn't seem to help, maybe I will try it again.
Her naps are great - same as night time. She puts herself right to sleep and sleeps for at least an hour or more.
We don't do CIO, but J sleeps pretty well at night (unfortunately, daytime is another story!). He's a little younger than M, but he does wake up to eat 2 times. Maybe she's hungry? I hope you can get some sleep soon!
ETA: I must have been typing when you posted.

Good call on letting her CIO on the first wake - 50/50 she puts herself back to sleep, but sometimes we run to her and comfort her by giving her a paci (which she spits out) and reset her mobile. I think I am going to ditch the mobile.
This pattern started about 2 weeks ago. We visited some friends in Vancouver, and she slept with me (something we haven't done since she was 1 month old). At the time, it was our only option - but it has been bad since then.
White noise - check. Ditch binkie and mobile - check. Let her CIO the first wake - check.
Thanks ladies!!!
