ATL VBACers re: Intown Midwifery

I saw a post below from myrall about Intown Midwifery and Dr. Bootstaylor that has me very interested.  If anyone has experience with them and would be willing to fill  me in (what hospital they use, insurance issues, etc.)  I would really appreciate it!

Re: ATL VBACers re: Intown Midwifery

  • Hi there!  I switched to Intown at 35 weeks because my OB practice was not being supportive of a VBAC and I was having terrible anxiety.  I have heard so many wonderful things about their practice and feel so lucky that they agreed to take me on so late.  I haven't had my baby yet, but EDD is Sunday and they think I will go late.  Everyone there is really nice and positive and hasn't given me any cause for stress.  Along with trying to VBAC in 42 so considered AMA, but they treat me like any normal healthy patient. I've seen Dr. Bootstaylor a few times and he is not like any other OB I've ever met.  He is very low intervention and believes that your body can do what it needs to do.

The practice does deliveries at Atlanta Medical Center and they specialize in waterbirths if you are interested.  They take most insurance - you can call them or look on their website.

Good luck if you decide to switch!  I'm so glad I did.

  • Thank you!  How did you feel about that hospital?  I have driven by there and the area is a little sketchy.  I am fairly new to Atlanta, so I don't know what to think.  Did you feel comfortable there?

Sorry, just saw your post. Funny thing about AMC is that I was born there 35 years ago when it was Georgia Baptist Hospital. That area isn't necessarily the nicest, but my experience at AMC was top notch. My first child was delivered at Piedmont and I would say my delivery at AMC was on par. The L&D suite I was in was super nice and the recovery floor was great too. The rooms were a little small, but no big deal. The nurses were phenomenal.

And yes, Dr. Bootstaylor is pretty amazing. He's a former Green Beret, for crying out loud - the man knows how to be cool under pressure. Since the midwife group got their scheduling system under control, the waits aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. They have a bunch of "house" midwives that conduct most of the prenatal visits, etc. You go to Dr. Bootstaylor's office at Emory Midtown for the ultrasounds and VBAC consult. The place is like a spa and they treat you like a queen.

Feel free to page me on the ATL board if you have any other questions. :)
