It's been raining on and off all week and getting the kids in and out of the car has SUCKED. DD1 is behind my seat, DD2 is behind the passenger side. Usually I get DD1 out first then have her touch the car tire next to me while I get DD2 out, but that means I'm not physically holding her, and I worry she could run. If I get DD2 out first, I have to leave her on the ground and barely in my line of sight, which also makes me nervous. Is there a better way to do this that I just haven't come up with yet????
Re: How do you load/unload??
when she was in the infant carseat I would hold the seat on one arm while unbuckling him and then helping DS jump down while holding my hand. Now he climbs on his own. You could always unbuckle your older one and then take the baby out and grab the older one like I did. Or I out the LO on the ground with my feet touching her seat while I grabbed DS.
Hope that helps some.
When DD was in the infant seat, she came out first and sat on the sidewalk while I got DS out (on the other side of the car). It wasn't ideal since I couldn't totally see her, but we went quickly and she was always fine. Now, I get DS out first, bring him around to DD's side, and have him stand in front of me - between the door and the side of the car so I can see him while I get DD out. Our car is pretty messy and there are usually toys on the floor, so he is usually occupied with grabbing the toys while I am getting DD out.
Good luck!
I have older DD behind driver seat and LO behind passenger too. Fof getting out of the car I reach around my seat and unbuckle DD and have her climb out and meet me at the passenger side door. She gets out after I take the infant seat out. She is only 20 months and for now this works because the infant seat base stays and she can shimmy between it and the front seat. (I hope that makes since!) I had to do it this way because of how our garage is set up. I park on the left side of the garage so our main way into the car is the passenger side. I can open my driver side door, but not the driver side back door.
Good Luck and I am sure you will come up with something that works!!
get the baby situated first before getting toddler out.
My older kiddo is behind me, the younger is behind the passenger. I either put the older one in first and leave the younger on the ground next to me if I was somewhere I felt it was safe to do this (like at home in front of our house, not in a crazy busy parking lot) OR I just put the oldest in on her side and shut the door then walked around and popped my youngest in and went back to buckle in the oldest. My oldest was just shy of 17 months when my youngest was born so they weren't old enough to trust to "touch the car". I felt it was the safer option in our situation to get them in the car first.
With unloading, I get my youngest out first always then get my oldest. I park by a cart corral whenever I can so I can grab a cart first. Load my youngest in the basket (or put them in the Ergo if I was wearing them) then get my oldest. Or w/o a cart I can grab the infant seat easier w/2 hands then I go around and with the infant seat on one arm I unbuckle my oldest and they can get out of the car themselves. I help them with the other hand though.
Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it!
