DD is at the age where she repeats everything you say. Well she said to me this morning, "I'm not interested in your problems, now go to sleep." I asked her who said it & she said, "Ms. W." Because I know DH & I do not say that to her. Ms. W is a mom of two herself, around my age. I just couldn't believe that she would talk to the kids that way.
Should I say something?
Re: Things my PreK teacher says
I wouldn't. You don't know the context or if the teacher really said it. I have a friend's 4 yo daughter that throws me under the bus for everything. My friend will ask her, where did you hear that? And her LO will without fail say Angela. I haven't seen the LO since we moved 10 months ago!
If it continues to be a problem, I would casually mention something to the teacher - not make a huge deal. You would probably be really surprised at what your LO is telling the teacher
Does your DD take a nap at school. I could understand a teacher saying something like that if a kid was complaining about silly things at naptime.
what is the objection to what the teacher said?
I think its likely your kid or others were fussing about some made up drama to delay laying down for a nap. I don't see any problem w/ the teacher basically telling the kids to knock it off and go to sleep.
As a former teacher myself- i would not say anything.... sure- keep your ears open to see if anything else comes out that sounds a little "rough" like that- but you have no idea what was going on... who she said it to... what they had been doing, etc.
Until you have taken care of 20+kids on your own, and dealt with some of them being totally insane, you have no idea of the type of stress a teacher goes through on a daily basis. Sure- she shouldn't talk like that- but it also doesn't mean she's a bad teacher if she said it once to a child who had been driving her up a wall all day and deserved even worse.
