and how many calories are you eating a day? I'm gaining weight on track, but just wondering if I am taking in enough calories. Prior to getting pg, I was eating about1200- 1500 calories a day (sometimes less than 1200). Now that I am pregnant, I know I need a little more - thinking about 200 more per my pg books, but wanted to know how everyone is getting in their extra calories. Sometimes I find it hard to do. Bfast for me is something kinda new as I used to just grab a Fiber One bar - I am I am trying to eat more for bfast, but it's hard. Please share your stories.
Re: What do you eat for bfast
I eat two plain Eggo waffles on my way to work. I know it's not the best thing for me but I didn't eat breakfast pre-pregnancy so iI'm usually not even hungry yet. These are plain enough I can eat them and it doesn't bother me first thing.
As for calories, I have no clue. I probably eat more than I should... story of my life

Welcome to the world, Baby W: born on 3/8/12 @ 3:49pm - 8lb 11 oz, 22 in.
I don't consciously think about eating more because I think if anything I'm afraid of eating too much! My favorite breakfast is oatmeal with fresh fruit, maybe with some nuts on top. If I'm in a hurry, like I am many mornings, I just have a piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter on it. I then usually might eat a snack a little after I get to work. Today I had 1/2 a bagel with cream cheese.
Also, if you do think you need a bit more calories just add a glass of milk to your meal.
I always start off with a skillet with Pam with 4 (or 4oz from the carton) of egg whites with either a bowl of oatmeal or O'Brien style potatoes.
My nutrionist said adding the extra calories is easily changing my nonfat yogurt with Kashi Go Lean to regular yogurt with Kashi Go Lean, but sometimes I just keep the nonfat yogurt and just eat two extra protein muffins after working out.

This breakfast keeps me the fullest for the longest time and keeps my energy up as well. I love it!
Sometimes when I'm running late I'll run a get a starbucks breakfast sandwich and boy can you tell the difference within an hour. I'm sluggish and moody and feel like crap!
I don't count my calories, but I feel like I'm on the right track and not worried about eating too little or too much. I'm just more conscious about putting REAL food into my system and it really makes a world of a difference.
Depends on how much time I have. If I have time, I'll usually make an egg white sandwich with some spinach and cheese. If I don't have time, I'll just have a bagel with cream cheese and some juice or milk.
I actually really like the one wrap that Starbucks has. I was completely unaware that it was fake food. Thanks for letting me know.
The eggwhite and spinach one is good, although my weakness is the bacon egg and gouda. If you look at the ingredient list on your egg white wrap, you'll see what I mean. I'm just not a fan of all of the processed crap out there. To each his own!
Ah I've never had that one. I'm one of those weird people that really hates bacon.
And to each his own is right, but I've got to admit, your original post sounded pretty high and mighty (with all your "REAL" talk).
Just saying.
Lately I have been eating two eggo waffles with about a tablespoon of peanut butter spread on them and topping it with blueberries. Then I smoosh it together like a sandwich.
Something else I like is scrambled eggs (or egg whites if I'm not feeling lazy) with some broccoli or spinach on a whole grain english muffin with a little bit of ketchup.
When all else fails, I eat cereal.
As for calories, I don't really count. I eat when I'm hungry which equates to 3 full meals and 3 snacks. Some days I feel hungrier than others and I end up having 4 snacks.

Things come across differently typed out than they do in person, thats for sure.
Earlier this year I was sick and tired of my eating habits and the way it was making my energy drag so I picked up a few books (Clean, In Defense of Food, and recently Real Food for Mother and Baby), totally revamped my eating style (although I'm more lax now that I'm pregnant), and couldn't even tell you how night and day it is for me. In no way did I mean to sound high and mighty. I guess I'm just passionate about it, without thinking how it might have come across in my post.
I usually have a slice of whole grain toast with peanut butter and fruit around 6:15 and then I have 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese before my first class starts at 8. Having the cottage cheese with the toast and fruit was a little too much for my stomach to handle first thing in the morning, but I was starving and lightheaded halfway through my first class if I didn't have the extra protein and calories from the cottage cheese so that's what I settled on.
I'd like to have eggs or something to mix it up, but I don't have the time or energy in the morning. I'm thinking about making some of those breakfast burritos that were posted a couple of weeks ago for some variety!
I am one of those people who have always eaten breakfast. If I don't eat I just can't function past 10:00. I have oatmeal with honey, raisins, 1/2 banana and soy milk. If I have been on top of things I will add a hard boiled egg for some added protein.
A few friends of mine are preggers and didn't eat breakfast before. They find wheat toast/wheat ego waffle and peanut butter on top does the trick.
I never ate breakfast pre-pregnancy, so I know how you feel. Now-a-days I have either a bowl of cereal or peanut butter toast. I also normally bring some yogurt to work as a late morning snack. Seems to work pretty well so far!
As for the calories, the first couple months of pregnancy I was counting calories. But as the meals got bigger I've lost motivation
. I probably eat a little more than I should, but I'm gaining on track according to the doctor. Just listen to your body, eat when you're hungry - your doctor will let you know if you're gaining too much. It's so important for baby to get enough calories and nutrients.
Hope that helps!
I grab cereal, a piece of fruit, and a glass of calcium fortified OJ (I hate milk in my cereal, because I'm a freak.)

I make a smoothie with two pieces of fruit (banana and something else) + OJ with calcium. Then I have greek yogurt when I get to work.
If I am running late I just have the banana and greek yogurt at work.
I am right there with you jeneglz. It's really gross what's in our food nowadays! I as well recently educated myself about what the food industry does to our food and it's horrific. I have to admit though being pregnant I have relaxed my standards a bit which you think I would be the other way around. Oh well!
You ladies are making me feel guilty about my breakfast choices! 3 days a week I'm up early enough for breakfast and it's almost always a glass of OJ (love my oj) and one poptart. The other 2 days I work the night shift so my breakfast sorta runs into lunch. I havent been keeping up with my calorie intake. I eat about the same way I did pre-pregnancy. I just find sometimes I may eat a little more. My meals are a mixture of very healthy choices and a little junk that I want.
I have a pretty active job so I think that's why I've managed to only gain a few lbs considering I don't seem to eat as healthy as some of yall.
I also used to grab a fiber bar and call it breakfast. Obviously that isn't enough. I'm a teacher, and my lunch isn't until 12:30-ish. I don't have a break between when I leave home (7am) and lunch, so I have to have something to hold me. Eating a lot doesn't work for me as it just makes me feel sick.
I found eating a pb&j in the morning holds me to lunch. The pb gives me energy that lasts. I eat it on wheat bread so that is good for my nutrition. I also have a glass of milk with it.
