TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Any dog experts?? {Obv. NTTCALR}

This is a P&R as i'm already late for work.

My dog is a 6 year old Rottweiler, female.

This morning, my husband takes my dog out to do her business. She pees and automatically comes right back inside. So my husband sends her up {we're on the 2nd floor of a 2-family house and he automatically left for work}. I'm getting ready for work and when I walk to the front room to close the door, I smell crap. Low and behold, she crapped all the way up the stairs and there's a huge pile down right in front of the door!!  Right after my husband took her out and she came back inside of her own free will!!!

This isn't the first time she's done this recently. This is the 3rd time she's pooped in the house in the past month. The other 2 we could come up with reasons*.... but this time?? The only reason I can come up with was that the ground was wet and she hates getting her paws wet. If you have to poop so bad, that you poop coming up the stairs, you'd think she'd just stay out there? Right?

I guess my question is, could this be a more serious problem? Is this a problem where I should call the vet?

I'm home more than i'm away, but could it still be a psychological problem?

*The first reason was an oops on our part. My husband thought I took her out, I thought he took her out... and she NEVER warns us when she has to go out. The second reason was when it was pouring outside, and she hates the rain. Sometimes we take her out with an umbrella over her head. LOL But we were outside for the longest time walking her and she wouldn't go! So we brought her back inside.

And on a funny note. After I cleaned up the massive amounts of poop this morning,  I took her back outside to the front of our house to see if she had anymore. I was just in my robe, nothing underneath. When I bent down to take her off her leash, my boob fell out!!! I really hope nobody was watching us this morning.

  • Dogs HATE pooping in the rain.  Our dog, Dante, refused to poop at.all during the 7 straight day session of rain.  He ended up getting very constipated and pooped like 8 or 9 times when the sun finally came out.  I don't understand why he does this to himself.

Dogs are so weird!! Bianca loves to swim, but hates the rain and hates getting her paws wet. Any kind of mud at all or soft ground she hates.

So do you think this was probably just an issue with the ground was wet and soft? I know last night she peed on the sidewalk {but it was raining last night}, i'm not sure where she peed this morning though.

I'm just worried that this is our warning that there's something wrong on the inside. Maybe i'll take her for a checkup early just in case though.

  • I would think it has to do with the rain.  I know our little dog hates getting her feet wet, and has gone in the house when its been raining for a couple of days straight.

Are these popping issues something recent? I would think that if she's going regularly and can usually hold it there probably isn't something wrong.  I've heard its more common to have something wrong if its a peeing problem-like a urinary tract infection.  Maybe she even got into something and ate something funky that upset her stomach?

Just the 3 times in the last 30 days or so. I can't remember the last time pooped inside the house!

About a year ago she had a UTI and was peeing like crazy! Let me tell you, cleaning up Rottweiler pee is NOT fun!

  • Neither of my guys are all that discerning about doing their business in the rain, which works out well since we live in Seattle. Bernard actually likes to crap in rivers like they're his own giant flush toilet. Weirdo.

Anyway, I think it's certainly worth getting Bianca checked out at the vet. It could be something as simple as a slight infection or a heavy parasite load. The thing that tips me in that direction is that she did it all the way up the stairs. That's not normal. In the meantime, be VERY diligent about bathroom time.

    Good luck!

Thanks. I've been thinking about making the call on my lunch break. I'll have to see what they say.

  • Ha to the boob falling out!

My one little dog, refuses to go outside if it's raining and will hold it (poop and pee) all day long until it stops!  Obviously it gets to a point where he can't hold it so he will eventually go out.  However, since I've gone back to school- both of our dogs have had 'accidents' in the house, right after taking them out.

I think they get so confused with me being home all summer,  then I am all of a sudden gone again.  I am a homebody too- I rarely do anything, especially during the week because I feel guilty if they can't be out and about with me every night and this still happens.  While they've only had a few 'accidents' in the house, their thing is that they'll tear stuff up- trash, socks, shoes, etc.

On a side note, it could be possible that she has an infection in her digestive tract- this happened to our one dog last fall.  He acted fine, but kept pooping a ton, no warning.  So I brought in a BM, they tested it and gave him meds, he was good within a week.  No answers as to how it happened and our other dog never got sick.

    Good luck!

It really could be because of the rain.  Doggies are weird about that kind of thing.

  • I don't have any ideas really, but what a pain.  I would agree - check with the vet, maybe just call and see if they think she needs an appointment.  I hope everything is ok with your dog!

  • Vet said it's probably the rain. If she does it again within the next month to bring in that sample then. Let's hope it doesn't happen again soon!

  • I think it's probably the rain. My dog hates the rain and will only go outside in the rain if you go out with her and she makes you walk all the way into the yard with her, not stay under our covered patio. It's weird because she loves baths, swimming, and the snow.

  • I would guess it is most likely the rain too - my Cody hates it!  He has pooped inside a few times as well.  I have also found that recently he goes out, pees quick and runs back in.  Then sometimes he wants to go out again a few minutes later.  Wierd, but the older he gets, the more he does this.  Maybe try to let him out twice a few minutes apart and see what happens.
