So, we are not religious at all, but one of our close friends is christening her daughter this weekend and we're invited. I just realized that we should probably bring a gift to the reception. Umm, any gift suggestions? Keep in mind that she knows we're atheists, so anything really religious might be weird.
Re: Christening gift?
I come from a big, Italian family so this might not be the same for everyone, but in our family people typically gave money, jewelry, or something religious (like a baby bible, cross necklace, etc.).
I think since you're a good friend, not family, and not religious, it's really the thought that counts. I'd probably go for something a little sentimental or commemorative like a picture frame or baby bracelet - it doesn't need to be pricey.

I give something non-religious for christening gifts (although, I think that giving gifts for christening is kind of silly...how many gifts do these kids need? but it seems like the thing to do...)
anyway, in the past I have done an engraved silver rattle or cup with the baby's initials.
I had no idea they did gifts for christenings until we baptized Guinevere - and she got tons of stuff, I was floored. She got everything from baby bibles and jewelry, to regular children's books and outfits, and a few gift cards and checks.
I agree with pp though, depending on how close you are, I think a card would be very acceptable.
I always give money.
If someone would pick me as a Godparent, I'd get something religious-ish. But, no one has picked me.
Whhhaaaaa!
