Vent about baby girl name

We haven't found out the sex of our baby yet but we have always talked about names. We have always loved the name Andie because my husbands name is Andrew and that way she would be named after her daddy

. But whenever we tell people that name they always say..well you should name her Andrea and use Andie for short. But i do NOT like the name Andrea I like the name Andie! Everyone tells me its not a real name its a nickname. Just irritates me!

I think if that's what you want to name your LO, then that's what you should do!

This is the exact reason DH and I have decided not to tell ANYONE what our names are. It's hard to make fun of our names when your looking at a little baby.

I'm Andrea and have always gone by it, but my friend with the same name only goes by Andie. No one calls her by her full name. I love it!

I like the name Andie. Its original and meaning for you. I hate when people give their opinions about names its your kid! When they have their own they can name it. I say you stick with Andie.

I think we are not going to tell our names anymore either. We probably wont even pick a name until baby is born. I'm worried we will decide on a name then take one look at our little baby and say "that name doesn't fit". So, think we will go into it with a few options

I was always of the opinion that it was better to do the full name, so there would be options...and then DH and I fell in love with a "nickname" but not the full name. Therefore, we're going with just the "nickname" for the baby.

But we're not telling anyone the name so no one can give us "helpful" suggestions!

I just tell people get use to it because that's gonna be her name. after all it's up to us as parent to decide what our child's name will be. When she is here people I sure people won't think twice after you have given birth

it's cute, and makes me think of those little mint candies. (which is totally a good thing. mmm)

you have to realize, she'll spend her life telling people, "it's not short for anything, it's just Andie."

a friend of mine named her daughter Abbie and she gets the "is it short for Abigail?" question a lot.

but go for it! you get to name your kid.

I agree. I think it's pretty too! I named my DD Rory and had a lot of people express their dislike of it before her birth and tell me I should name her Aurora and call her Rory. Her birth certificate reads Rory and I never gave it a second thought. Don't let people's negative opinions sway you- go with your heart;-)

This is the reason we don't tell our baby names until its born. With my son we named him Jax and people would say we should have named him Jaxson and call him Jax for short. Just don't listen to them its your baby and name it what you want. Good Luck!!

We have been discussing the same type thing. We are naming our son Luke. Everyone else (including my husband) thinks we should officially name him Lucas because in the professional world that would be more appropriate. But I love the name Luke, not so much Lucas. I understand that everyone will still call him Luke but....

I like the name Andie. I say go for it.

We are naming our babies Lily and Jack. Everyone assumes their "REAL" names will be Lillian and Jackson. Um...no. They are Lily and Jack. Plain and simple. It irritates me too so I know exactly how you feel

The best advice I can give you, and I'm sure most of us bumpies will agree, don't discuss baby names w/anyone before LO is born!!!! Why? B/c as soon as you start throwing POSSIBLE names around, for some reason, pp tend to feel VERY COMFORTABLE telling you exactly what they think of it. Any negative opinions might make you change your mind or make you feel bad about your choices and ruin what's suppose to be a special moment btwn you and your SH/SO. BUT, if you wait til after LO is born and just give him/her the name you want, most pp will keep thier opinions to themselves. Remember, this is YOUR child, you can name her whatever you want, so it shouldn't matter what everyone else has to say about it.

I agree with everyone, I think you should use it! FWIW, My mom is Andi (short for Andrea which she's always hated) and she's never felt like people constantly ask her if it's short for anything or has had any trouble with it. Andie is adorable!

There are plenty nicknames that are becoming full names, so it's not that odd or strange. If we were going to have a boy I was considering the name Liam (from William). I didnt even realize that's where it originally came from. I heard Liam once and liked it, but never liked William.

The weird thing I've noticed about names these days is that kids could care less what their classmates and friends are named (which is so different from when we were kids, because back then if your name wasn't Jennifer, Jessica, Brittany, etc, you were going to get made fun of!). It's always the adults that feel the need to express their opinions about names! Reason #1 why we're not sharing names until the baby comes. Unfortunately I think you're just going to have to deal with it now that you've already shared the name, just come up with something else to think about while people are "giving you advice." I for one would choose to think about how awesome I am and how much of a loser that person is
