I thought I was going in for a scan and coming out with a due date. Instead, the ultrasound found 2 sacs. One was significantly bigger than the other. Sac 1 had a heartbeat of 119,and was about 6.5 weeks. Sac 2 was much smaller in size, maybe 4-5x smaller. It had a heartbeat of 148.
The doctor told us that the chance of miscarrying the smaller twin (vanishing twin syndrome) was 50-60%, that sac #2 is a lot smaller, but she has seen them survive, but wasn't that optimistic.
I wasn't prepared to hear them say "there are 2 sacs" at all, let alone one is prob not viable. I'm not sure what to think and feel.
My doctor will be calling me later today to discuss the scan more and the plan from here on out. I will have another US in 2-3 weeks. By that point, sac #2 will have no heartbeat, or a slower one (dying), or I will start bleeding (miscarry). There is some risk to sac #1, but its small from what they said. I'm looking forward to talking to my doc later.
Thanks for reading, it feels good in a way to type that out.
Re: Ultrasound update-not sure what to feel
Oh my gosh! This is pretty much exactly what happened to me today (except my baby B didn't have a heartbeat at all yet). I'm sending happy thoughts your way. Best of luck to you!
Grow baby grow!!
So sorry to hear that...sending thought and prayers your way!
Hoping for the best for you. I'm sure you had a huge shock today!
Oh wow! That is rough. I would not lose hope for Baby B yet. I have heard stories of the smaller twin catching up. It may just be a late bloomer. The fact that there is a strong heartbeat is also a good sign! Try not to stress too much!
Also, there is a few people on the PgAL board that are in this same situation. You may want to make a post over there. They could offer some good advice.

Figgs- does PGal mean pregnancy after loss board?
Yes it does! And I already saw your post there. You should get some good advice from those ladies.
