Do you roll your LO back while he/she sleeps?

If your LO rolls onto his or her tummy while sleeping, do you always roll him or her back?

My LO keeps rolling over while she is sleeping, but wakes up if I roll her back.  I know "back is best"... so does that mean I am supposed to roll her back onto her back every single time she does this??

Re: Do you roll your LO back while he/she sleeps?

  • By the time babies can roll, the SIDS risk drops dramatically (the peak is 2-4 months) so there is no longer any need to turn them back over. At this point, they can change positions if they need to. Besides, you'd drive yourself crazy doing this anyway! Rest easy, mama, its okay now :)

  • We do about half the time.  If it wakes her up and she starts screaming then we go in and calm her down and put her back on her back.  If she stays asleep when she rolls onto her tummy then we just leave her... and I periodically check (l don't sleep as well when she's on her belly) to make sure she is not face down on the mattress.

  • DD never rolls in her bed but constantly during play time. her pediatrician just told us today at her appointment that if she starts rolling in her crib that we don't need to flip her at this point.

  • I only flip DD because she gets stuck.  She still doesn't know enough to put her head down.  It is really annoying!

  • My pedi said yesterday that the AAP says when a baby turns 4 months you no longer have to roll them onto their back.

DD rolls but since she told me this yesterday I haven't seen her on her tummy while sleeping but I don't intend to roll her back over when I do.

  • I was just going to post something about this!  DD just started rolling in her crib today, and I'm freaking out!!!  I keep rolling her back, which makes her mad and starts crying, but I'm sooooo terrified of her being on her tummy.

What do you guys do to help you get through this????  I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep tonight!!!

  • Before he rolled tummy to back no.  Now that he rolls both ways....its a lost cause because he just goes back anyway and since he can roll back over I'm ok with him tummy sleeping.
