We just found out we're expecting #2 in May-a huge shocker! DS will be 18months old when the baby is born. The biggest dilema I'm having right now is deciding about the stroller situation...haha! I have a Bumbleride Indie that I ADORE! We have all the accessories and travle bag, and have quite a bit of money tied up in the thing. My question is, is a double stroller neccessary with an 18 month old and an infant? What has your experience been? I'm looking into selling the single I have and purchasing the bumbleride indie twin. But then part of me thinks that there will be times when I go out with just the baby or just DS and would want to use a single instead of a double....sigh....I'm over thinking this but what's your advice?!
Thanks!
Re: How neccessary is a double stroller?
Do you SAH and use a single often with your older one? If so, I would definitely trade up for the twin.
We were able to do without one because we both work, and we were rarely out alone with both kids. If I did go out by myself, when DS was an infant, I would baby wear and push DD, and now we have a wagon to get to the playground. I also use shopping carts a lot and never take them someplace like the mall where they couldn't be in a cart.
I agree with the PP-you can probably get by as a working mom with just a single, but if you SAH you're going to want the double.
I wore the baby in a carrier for the first 5 or 6 months, but in the summer I used my double a ton. I also like it for longer outings, since I'll wear the baby for a bit, and when she's getting tired I can put her in the double and take a break from holding her.

For us the double was a necessity. And still is. DS is not responsible enough to always walk if I push DD in the stroller, even now at 2.5. And he would get tired and want me to carry him. For the first 2 months of DD's life, I wore her in the baby bjorn and pushed DS in the single, but after that we switched to the double.
I love having them both contained when we are out and about. I have only recently allowed DS to walk while holding my hand when going in and out of Starbucks or quickly into the grocery store. Anything longer, I need him contained!
This, we have different strollers for different occasions (umbrella, BJCS and BJ double jogger). I will admit that we go a lot of places though. I work FT, we are constantly out of the house, parks, zoo, amusement parks, etc. I also have older kids so we have soccer and gymnastics to get to. I can't imagine going to the soccer field without a stroller to contain the little ones!
This exactly, we have 3 and use all 3 regularly.
