Names you won't use, but like

I can think of so many good names I'd never use, it drives me crazy! It's funny how certain names can be ruined forever because you can't stand someone IRL who has that name, or because it's your ex's name, your friend's kids name, or whatever.

I like Rhys, but can't use it because it's a good friend's name.

I like Georgia, but my friend named his daughter that a few years ago.

I like Eli and Ezra, but I already know too many of those.

I also like Nye and Rye, but my cousin's step-son is Nye and my friend's husband is Ry, so I crossed those off the list, too.

I love Eden, but I have two friends who used it already.

I could go on forever, but I'll spare you...

Anyone else?

  • I love the name Ezra. Love it, love it, love it. But my husband are I are sort of afraid that it is just too unique for us and even though we like it now, we may hate it by the time our son is a few years old. So we are afraid to use it.

But I still love it and I SWOON everytime I hear it!

  • Vixen.  I know a girl named Vixen and she is a super smart, awesome, wholesome quirky lady.

It only works if you want to gamble that she's def. not going to grow up to be in the adult film industry and then it's just cliche.

  • I like the name Barrett, but we won't use it because DH's name is Jarrett and that would just be silly.

  • My 2 very favorite girl names are Mallory & Delaney, but dh hates both of them.  So, I'll never get to use them.  For a boy, we loved Beau, but since this LO is a girl (and our last), we won't get to use that either.

Barrett was at the top of our list for a boy!

I LOVE Beau, but my best friend had this super douche-y drug addict boyfriend for years that was named Beau and every time I hear it I think of him. Ruined!

We threw this name around for a long time, we were going to use it as a middle name for our girl...I loved it as a first name if we had a girl, but we were positive that we would be naming our boy Garrett (family name) so having Garrett and Barrett would be wierd! lol So now i'm jsut going to dream of it as a girls middle name!! lol

  • Xavier, Deidre, Aidan, Quinn
  • There are a bunch of names I love but that sound weird with our last name: Luke, Noelle, Adele...

I also love Natalie- it my little sister's name, but she is adamant about not having a niece named after her.

After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!

It's a different spelling of Reese. It's an English or Welsh spelling, so something like that. I love the way it looks.

I see the name Colton on here a lot lately, and I really like it, but it's the name of the horrible tiny redneck town my guy is from.

I also like my ex-boyfriends name, Ian Kennedy. Obviously, that's not going to fly with my partner.

  • Oh, gosh, don't you just hate meeting someone new with a name that you love, and you think to yourself, "Please, please don't screw up this name for me!"

    I love, but won't use:

Josiah (friend's baby), Jonathan (ex-boyfriend), Christian (ex-boyfriend's middle name), Elijah (DH is not a fan), Noah (friend's baby), and Adrian (good friend of ours)

Adrienne (friend's wife who hates my guts for no apparent reason), Aurora (DH is not a fan), Lyla (friend's baby - plus now Lyla and Molly would be begging for me to screw up their names EVERY time)

I LOVE LOVE your lo's name. You made a great choice.

  • My dh and I are an interracial couple. We have struggled finding a name that suits both of our ethnic backgrounds.

I love Harlowe and Scarlett but dh isn't going for it. I liked Declan if we were having a boy.

  • There's a lot of names I liked that SO rejected: Hazel, Zailia (like Azalea), Owen, Julian.

And then (this might be silly) there are names I don't think I could ever use for a caucasian baby; India, Egypt, Jai.

  • I thought of two more!

I love the name Laura, but there is this woman who really hates me named Laura. And I love love LOVE the name Dylan, but I have an ex named Dylan.

  • Before I met my DH I had my heart set on all sort of -er boy names. Hunter, Parker, Carter etc but of course my DH's last name ends with an -er too so I have told all my girlfriends they have to use the great names I can't!
  • I like Jack but don't think we could use it because DH is Jake.  I think the names are way too similar.

Also like Jackson, but our last name starts with J and ends in -on, so it would sound weird.

DH and I both like Jonah, but it's the name of one of his co-workers, so it's out Sad

Exactly!  I LOVE er names! Conner, Cooper, Gunner, Piper.... all ruined by the last name :(

  • Ugh, I LOVE names that start with a P - Peter being my favorite. However, my last name is a pretty outrageous P name.. Pipkorn. Seriously? Peter Pipkorn? I can hear it now... Peter Pipkorn picked a peck of pickled peppers.

I love DH, but I'm not crazy about the last name he came with! ;)

  • For a boy: Henry, Ian, Ryan (DH vetoed them)

For a girl: Kate. It is my 100% all time favorite girls name. Katherine Elizabeth to be exact. DH didn't like Kate. Plus, we came up with Caroline which has such awesome meaning, so it is okay. But, if we ever have another girl, she will be Katherine Elizabeth!!

My best friend named her son that, and I was like "whatttt?!  Why would you name your kid THAT?!"  I've never EVER heard anyone say anything good about that name.

  • I'll save your eyes from reading my long list and only posting a few.

Mia - I offered this as an alternative to Maria (DH's first choice for a girl's name). Then DH told me that it means "mine" in Spanish. He's got a very large Spanish speaking family so that just wouldn't work.

Isabella - This one was a no from the start because of the popularity of Twilight. And one of my aunts is Isabel.

Joaquin - I just can't even begin to explain how much I love this name. DH said it reminds him of Joaquin Phoenix and his fake "crazy" episode a couple of years back. Lol.

Nicholas - We've got a cousin who's son will be right around a year old when DS is born and his name is Nicholas.

    Noah - Friend's son's name.

Keenan - Older DS is Kaleb and I'm so not going to start on an all K name theme.

Hopefully we come up with something soon. This little boy needs a name! :)

  • Isobel (way too popular in various forms now!), Stella, Jemima, Ealasaid ('ee-la-say-d' is Gaelic for Elizabeth), Clementine, Wynne, Cole, Laurel, Ruby, Annika, Claire. All were on lists for our first DD, but got vetoed for various reasons.

For a boy, I like Harry (but am afraid kids would tease since it sounds like 'hairy'), Cash, Lennon, Dashiell, Rhys (this would've been DD's name had she been a boy and we don't want to recycle), Jude, Troy, Liam, Jasper and Leopold.

Some of them are too out there for DH's taste, but unfortunately, he doesn't suggest things, just vetoes!
