Help! Constant leaking FB OS -- absorbency issues?

I need some help! DS is almost 3 months old, and we've been using FB OS since about 2 weeks. Everything has been working great until the last few weeks. It seems like every diaper leaks pee. And most of them are not even close to soaked. We have the leg elastics set on 4 on the front and the back. We had it tighter, but they were leaving bad marks around DS's legs. The other snaps are set on the tightest setting that fits around DS -- he is a big baby at 16lbs, 8oz. We have a front-loading HE washer, and here is our routine: cold rinse, hot wash with a SMALL amount of ALL Free and Clear, then tumble dry low. We usually do about 18 diapers/pads per load. I am getting SO frustrated and am in desperate need of advice! What could affect the absorbency? Do I need to strip them? Make them tighter somehow? If I do strip, how? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I'm under the impression that "free & clear" detergents aren't really great for CD - maybe you have build up?  I'd try stripping and switching detergent.

  • I'm no expert, but agree that you might try stripping them.  Also, I always do an extra cold water rinse after my hot wash cycle.

  • I'm in the exact same situation. My Happy Heiny pocket diapers leak pee, they're giving her marks, I cold rinse and hot wash with ALL. I read that leaking might be caused by detergent build-up so today, I'm stripping them by washing them multiple (when they're already clean) with no detergent until the water runs clear. Supposedly this removes the ALL detergent. I bought some Rocking Green detergent and I'll wash them in that and see if that stops the leaking.

  • I had very similar issues with our FB OS. They worked great when DD was a newborn, but around 3.5 months they leaked almost every time we used them. For us it was likely a fit issue, since none of our other diapers leaked. They might just not be a good style for us or I haven't mastered the elastic system. Either way they are now out of our rotation, waiting to be sold. If you use other diaper styles or brands, are you having leak issues?

If you do have to strip, you do a squirt of blue dawn in the wash cycle and rinse (and rinse and rinse) until there aren't any suds. We have a front loading HE washer and I found that added water through the detergent slot helped a lot with build-up issues. Extra water is also helpful during stripping, since you can actually see if there are suds. GL!
