Phone line/ landline (XP from Nest)

I think I asked you guys before if you have a landline.. but I just posted over on the Nest - do any of you use a phone with an actual phone company jack, or even know anyone that does?  I wanted to ask over here too because I know a couple of you have built new homes or bought newly built homes, and I'm curious if they even came with phone jacks (or if everyone does internet phones now).

We have a phone company "box" on the outside of the house that is dangling since our siding was replaced and the siding guys took it off (but the wire is still connected) and I want to clip it.

  • Nope, we have been cell phones only for over 4 years now. We may have to do some kind of home phone when DD is older and wants to talk on the phone with friends, though.

  • We have the box outside, but have not have a land line in a few years......but we are getting one back.

We need something here, sometimes my cell acts up and I don't have service...it's either the phone or Sprint. It rarely happens, but I don't want that to happen when I need it.

Also, my mom was here to babysit for a few hours a couple weeks ago.....she forgot her cell at home therefore having no phone here. That is 100% not ok with me....and what if a babysitter doesn't have a cell (like a teen, I know it would be rare but what if)?  When R starts school I want a phone line for school to call, not just a cell. Like pp mentioned, for friends too.

We will either go back to Frontier or get the "land line" box from our cell carrier. We looked into getting another cell for a "land line" but it costs the same as Frontier and could have the same cell issues.

  • We have a land line.  When we moved into our house 4 years ago and called to have the phone turned on, it took an extra week.  The previous owners hadn't had a land line in so long that the phone company came and took the equipment off the side of the house to use elsewhere.  They had to reinstall it.

  • We have a landline with the wiring through Verizon, but service through Time Warner. I've debated cutting the landline service as a cost-saving measure, but have been hesitant to make the change. I guess we just aren't quite ready to dump the conventional way.
  • We have one through Verizon FIOS
