I am starting to think about our next car seats because I can barely lift the infant seat and LO is now 28.5 inches, so only has 1.5 inches to go for the height limit.
LO is only in my car maybe 2-3 times a week maximum. We use DH's car for family drives and he does drop off and pick up most days.
My thought was to get a Britax for DH's car and get the Cosco Scenera for my car to save money. I feel a little guilty not getting the bells and whistles car seat for both of our cars- please tell me I'm being silly since he's rarely in mine.
Re: Car seats
Not silly at all. We did something similar.
Nope, not silly. We have Britaxes in our van, which is what we use most, and Sceneras in our Honda Fit for emergencies or short trips.
This might not be that helpful, but we are in a similar situation and ended up getting two Britax marathons, mainly because he'll be in that seat for a few years at least and our routine of who drives LO where and how often could change. I got them on a good sale at Albee baby and got free shipping - I think it came to around $400 for bot seats and we got them within a few days.
If you don't want to buy both now, you could put a Britax in DH's car and leave the infant seat in yours and just put him in/out of it like you would a regular seat. Then get the second car seat in a couple months.
The safety rating on the Scenera is the same as the Britax Marathon according to Consumer reports. We use it in the Grandparent's car.
The only downside to the Scenera is I don't think it uses the LATCH system (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So, it's a little bit harder to install with the seatbelts.
One of the other benefits of having a Scenera is if you ever need to travel (like take it to the airport), the Scenera is much lighter and somewhat smaller than the Britax. We took it on a trip to Jamaica and I wasn't as worried if it got beat up or lost because it was relatively inexpensive.
ETA: Now that I think about it, I may be getting the LATCH issue confused. Maybe it's that the grandparent's *car* doesn't have the LATCH so DH has to use the seat belts. That would make more sense because I think they keep it in their car that's 13 years old. It's probably obvious that DH does all of the car seat installation in our family :-)
That's what we did. We have a Britax Marathon for the car she's in 99% of the time, and a Cosco Scenera for the other 1%. You can't beat $39 at Walmart for a rarely used second seat. Our neighbors did the same and their son actually likes the cheap seat better than their Britax.
Go figure.
I just looked up mine online, and it says LATCH equipped.... but we haven't installed it yet.
ETA: I just looked at the seat and it shows LATCH instructions
We did the same thing. And the Scenera definitely works with LATCH .
I ended up hating the Scenera, though. So much so that we got another Britax for DH's car. . The material on the one DH had was just yucky and it was a PITA to tighten or loosen the straps. DH drives him every morning, so that wasn't something we wanted to put up with on a daily basis. Every now and then it wouldn't have been so bad. MIL still has a Scenera in her car.
