What is wrong with people??!!! So, I was walking to the bathroom at work and the janitor (a new guy-mid 20?s) says to me, ?Wow, you?re fat!? Completely caught off guard, I started looking around thinking he couldn?t be talking to me, but I was the only one in the hall. I said ?excuse me?!? He goes, ?your fat!? I said ?I?m Pregnant!? and he continues to say something about who ever knocked me up? and I just walked away. I was in complete awe. I couldn?t believe what just happened. There was no need for him to point out how fat I am getting. Who does this guy think he is?! I?m 7 months pregnant, obviously I?ve gained weight, but I didn?t think I looked THAT big. Needless to say, now I feel horrible about myself and am fighting back the tears!

NOT making excuses for his behavior at all - but could it be cultural? For instance, my husband is cuban and this past weekend we were at his Grandparents house. His grandfather repeatedly told me that I was fat. I got very angry, but my husband intervened and explained to Grandpa that I didn't understand that it was a compliment. According to my husband, in his culture, it is a compliment to call someone fat because it means that you have enough to eat and are growing a healthy baby. If someone was "skinny" you wouldn't make the comment because it meant they couldn't provide enough for themselves.

The right thing to do would be to go to HR or a manager and tell him he started insulting you for no reason, but I think I'd go back and tell that a**hole that he's rude and to f*** off.

I would definitely report him...especially since he went on to talk about your DH knocking you up. That is unprofessional. Also, you are pg. What if he is saying this to people that are overweight. That is unacceptable. He needs to be reprimanded for this.

As far as the cultural thing goes...he was latino, but I try not be judge people based on thier race/culture. I guess that could have played a role in it though.

I decided to go to HR after reading your posts and they were SPEECHLESS when I told them. They talked to his manager and told him that they no longer want him working on this floor. PHEWW...not if I can just steer clear of thim for the rest of thse day, although its hard when I have to pee every 15 minutes.

Thank you for all your support and thoughtful words. I just had two caramel creme candies and I do feel a little better...LOL.

I don't work in HR, but I would hope my HR would fire him for that comment. What if there is another pregnant woman on his new floor? Or, G-d forbid an overweight woman? He needs to be stopped.
