I posted yesterday about how the Bethesda police station was able to fit car seat checks in within a day or two, I just wanted to give an update because I'm so glad we went.
We went at 7:30 a.m. this morning so that we could still get DS to
daycare and us to work on time. We had 2 seats (1 in each car) and took
both cars and DS at the same time. We were finished a few minutes
before 8 with no waiting whatsoever (at the Gaithersburg check for the
infant seat, DH had to wait 30 minutes even though he had an
appointment). Ms. Dillon was super friendly and set everything up for
us, while showing us what she was doing and explaining why. She was very
familiar with the car seats we had and was discussing some others so I
imagine she's familiar with several different brands/models.
DH installed our infant seat and did the check and found that he did everything right, so this time around when we put in the convertibles, DH didn't really feel like we needed to get them checked. I'm glad I pushed for it and made the appointments - we had at least a couple of things either incorrect or not in place (for example the tether that the Britax marathon uses, the infant insert, and the overall angle of the seat are just a few things she fixed), we pretty much only had the harness at the right location and tightness .
When DH thanked Ms.Dillon he actually said, "I didn't think we needed to get them checked, but I'm really glad we did" score one for me!
Re: wow. so glad we got the carseats checked today
This happened to us with both car seats as well. DH installed them and it was mostly correct but there were some tweaks required. But now I think he's got it down.
The only bad thing is that *I* don't really know how to install them correctly which is something I need to learn in case of emergency.
