Hi everyone,
I'm popping over from 1st tri since this is something that wouldn't actually happen until 16 weeks. I had DD at 35w without any signs of pre-term labor. Because of this, I have a consult with MFM and there is the possibility that they will recommend progesterone shots from 16-37 weeks. From what I understand from my midwife they are once a week, and the liquid is oily in nature so can be kinda painful. But this is all I know. I was wondering if any of you are currently doing the shots and if you can give any insight. TIA!
Re: Anyone doing progesterone injections?
I did progesterone shots in my rump throughout my first trimester. My husband gave them to me nightly. It was a mixture of progesterone in sesame oil, so it is thicker than the normal shots and takes a few extra second to give. If you give them too fast it can be painful. The key for us was for me to lay down on the bed and relax, and he would alternate sides and areas so no place got it twice. Once a week will allow your injection shot to "heal" much faster than nightly.
If the spot gets sore, put a heating pad on it because the heat that will move the oil around in your body opposed to letting it just sit in that spot. Honestly, some of the shot is mind over matter. The once a week pain, if it is painful, is worth going full term. This is what I kept telling myself.
Good luck though! Shots are never fun.
