I am making a tuna noodle casserole for the first time tonight since DH won't be home and he hates tuna. It's a pretty easy recipe I found on allrecipes.
I have to add a cup of cheddar cheese to a milk based sauce like you would do with homemade mac and cheese. All I have is one of those shredded cheddar mixes with a touch of Philly. The cream cheese flavor kind of gags me in this cheese so I was thinking of doing just a half cup of this and a half cup of something else.
All I have is shredded parm or shredded mozzarella. Would these work and melt in okay? (I was thinking the shredded mozz would make it too stringy, which might be ok but doesn't really sound like tuna noodle casserole to me). Maybe I could just do the whole cup parm or mozzarella........
Re: Cooking question
What other ingredients are in the casserole? That would tell me which cheese to use based on what would compliment the other ingredients. If you have plain old american cheese slices that is usually a good substitute for cheddar. My DH hates tuna also, I can't even make a tuna sandwich with him in the house without him complaining.
This is the recipe!

I would probably just substitute all parmesan cheese. I wouldn't mix the parm and cheddar. The mozzarella would probably over power the dish.
Yes, I did notice the picture doesn't match, weird!
Ok, I will just try the parm, thanks!!
