XP: Recommend your Hybrid that is not a Prius

If you have a hybrid that isn't a Prius, please tell me how you like it. We are considering trading in my car and getting DH a hybrid and then I would take his 2010 Ford Edge. He doesn't like the Prius (he's driven his bosses many times) but other than that, isn't sure what he wants but it needs to be a hybrid and not just a high mpg car. Thanks!!

Re: XP: Recommend your Hybrid that is not a Prius

  • What doesn't he like about the Prius? Is it just the lack of get-up-and-go? If so, you'll probably have to look at some of the larger (less fuel efficient) hybrid models...as I believe all the smaller sedans and such share that "lag".

Volkswagon Jetta, compact SUVs, Chevy Volt $$, Lexus $$, or maybe the 2012 Ford C-MAX?

  • Not sure if it's a hybrid, but Jeremy Clarkson recommends the Ford Fiesta.

    He says it's very green.

  • Thanks Ladies! I think it is the lack of even the possibility of pick-up that he doesn't like about the Prius. I've not driven one so I can't compare but my friend has a Honda Civic and it doesn't seem to bad to me...I felt like I could merge onto a busy highway if necessary.

  • I want a honda insight.
  • We've had a Honda Civic Hybrid since 2007 and love it! Would buy it all over again in a heartbeat.

  • We currently enjoy our Toyota Camry Hybrid. Love that we can get great gas millage but still have a full sedan. Plus it doesn't "look" like a hybrid, which was a bonus to us.

  • We didn't buy it because the only used one they had when we shopped was kind of beat up, but we test drove a Civic hybrid. I really liked it, except that the back seat wasn't as comfy as the one in the Prius. It's very quiet, the car seat anchors are easy to access, and it doesn't look as funky as the Prius (if that matters).

  • I own a Prius and it has no issues getting to 75 to merge into a highway, just saying.

The only other hybrids I know that people seem to recommend is the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, and Ford Fusion.  All of these will cost more than the Prius and get less mpg.
