Prenatal vitamin made me ill?

Hi ladies, I usually take my vitamin at night, but took this morning after some light fruit and suddendly felt so sick, like I had to run to bathroom and throw up. Gingerale & saltines seeming to help a little bit, but has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

Re: Prenatal vitamin made me ill?

  • Yes, I cannot take the Target brand prenatals or any kind of One-a-day vitamin without throwing up.  Last pregnancy, I thought I had m/s until I switched vitamins.  Try different brands.  I am taking the Kroger brand in a green bottle, and it's been fine this time.

  • In my first preg 13 yrs ago I did so I took flinstone vitamins, dr said it would help and it did beside the weird flavor and texture. I got some prenatal gummy vitamins from walmart and so far no nausea.
  • Yep - definitely go back to taking it at night.  I had the same problem with the pill.

It's my body's way of reminding me that I am NOT a morning person.

  • Try taking it on a full stomach.  I tried several prenatals and all of them upset my stomach to the point that I would vomit if I took them on an empty stomach or if I only had something light (like fruit and a yogurt for breakfast).  I only take mine after a good meal like lunch or dinner.  HTH!
  • I always take mine after a full bowl of Kashi cereal. Never had any problems. The fruit in your tummy might not have been enough. Not sure if any of the fruit was oranges. My OB nurse said to watch out for citrus fruit because it won't mix well with the stomach acid and will make you sick.

  • I sometimes get really bad acid reflux from them.  For me, it's actually better to take them in the morning because when I take them at night and then lie down, the reflux gets worse.  You could try a different brand to see if it's easier on your stomach.

  • My prenantal was making me sick and my OB told me I could take Flinsone vitamins instead, he said I would get the same thing and they do not make you sick.  So I did that and it was wonderful for my 2nd pg.  This time around I am not having any problems.

  • Yes!  I always took mine at night (I was taking Materna), and recently changed to Jamieson brand (not sure if you ahve this in the US).  I can take this in the morning, but any other brand makes me Ick!

  • This will happen to me if I take mine on an empty stomach, so I always take it before bed and if I haven't eaten in a while, I have a glass of milk with it.

  • I would throw up everytime I took my vitamins in the morning with my first.  After a few times I learned my lesson and would take them with dinner every night :)
