My ds had a rast test done on saturday for basic food panel. I thought he MAYBE allergic to egg whites.
Here is some background....he had a 12 hour fever on tuesday which was gone by bedtime on tuesday. Then on thursday i gave some egg white at breakfast and at lunch time he had 1 spot under his eye that looked like a bug bite. By 2pm he had about 3 on his face. Then my mom (who watched him that night) called at 7pm saying she thought he had chicken pox. When I saw him on Friday (when we went to the doc) he had red chicken pox looking bumps, huge hive splotches, and then white bumps with red patches around them. There might be a hive under his arm and then it be better in a min and then back again somewhere else...it was so weird.
by sat it was pretty much better but would get a hive or chicken pox type bump every once in awhile. Saturday when he was eating his birthday cake he got 3 little hives but they were gone within about an hour (if not sooner)
So eli's food allergy test came back negative (yay) but his ige is elevated. Does anyone have experience with this? the nurse said it made sense seeing as he had hives the day before (which is the reason for the testing). Should i press and ask for a more specific test to find out the cause or would you assume that the hives that presented on thursday evening were a result of tuesday's fever (another thing the dr said could have cuased it)
Re: question about allergy test
i'm not completely sure if i'm right on this, but if his IgE is elevated than he is allergic to something, just possibly not eggs. Was eggs the only thing he was tested for? perhaps test him for the top 8.
I'm actually surprised they didn't test him for the top 8, especially after doing a RAST test. Maybe they can do a skin test -i would go see an allergist.

i would definitely get in touch with an allergist. They would test a bit deeper. GL!
