Are these costumes too weird?

3 year old DS asked to be a Bunny rabbit spooky buddy for Halloween

(AKA: a golden retriver dressed with bunny ears)(Thank you Disney for this one)

We found him a golden retriver costume and are going to put bunny ears over the headpiece.

DS also picked out a costume for DD who will be almost a year at halloween: he wants her to be a Spooky Kitty

(He keeps asking for her to be a kitty with butterfly wings, no idea where this one came from )

We bought her a kitty costume!

My BFF thinks that both these ideas are really stupid and weird.

I think it is cute DS came up with these ideas...However I am not totally sold on spooky kitty yet

what do you think?

Re: Are these costumes too weird?

  • Nah, I think it is absolutely fine for a 3 y/o.  I am sure he will love it and you will love looking back at pictures.

  • No way!

J begged me to be Donkey Kong (from super mario). She he's wearing a Monkey Costume with a big red tie. I'm sure 90% of people won't know what he's supposed to be but he is beyond excited.

  • Nope, although I did laugh because it made me think of the commercial for that Buddies movie.  The costumes are essentially a dog and a kitty, just with some modifications :)

  • I think it's really cute, and I love that your DS came up with it. It will make the day that much more exciting for him.
  • No not at all. I think that's awesome. Your DS has a heck of an imagination. That's becoming rare these days. He sounds really excited about it, I'd just go with it.

  • They are little kids - let them do what they want!

My DD was a puppy last year.. but she wore her costume every day for like 6 weeks.. (it was a vest/jacket with a hood w/ears).  People were like oh, cute jacket :)

Adults or even other kids might not "get" what Spooky Buddies are, but I totally do, and they are kids, let them have a little fun!

  • I think it's great that he has an opinion on both costumes!

I bought my DD a costume because I thought she really wouldn't care this year...in the last week she decided she wanted to be a witch.  I'll be making a witch costume this weekend.  It's a holiday for her so if she wants something specific I'm going to try and make that happen.
