"rip-roaring ear infection"

is apparently a medical diagnosis =(

My poor baby! No wonder he has been grumpy, we thought it was just teething. I had to call in to work this morning- at 3 am- when I got puked on, the first time. Now we're at home and I'm working on spoiling him (even more) rotten. All he wants to do is nurse, but he keeps puking everything up.

Any ideas? Magic remedies to make him feel better?

Re: "rip-roaring ear infection"

  • I've heard warmed garlic clove that fits in the lobe (not the ear hole itself) held to the ears for 15-20 minutes 3 times a day can help draw the infection out. I tried it with DS and it drew wax out and his ear healed nicely (along with the ear drops we received)

  • Warm bathes, lots of snuggles and if the nursing makes him feel better then let him nurse as much as he wants. Did they give you an antibiotic? That should start kicking in within 24 hours to help a bit. Also alternate tylenol and ibuprofen for the pain, Tylenol every 4 hours and Ibuprofen every 6 hours. Tylenol is dosed by kilograms for infants. One kg is 2.2 lbs. The dose is 10 mg per kg. So if your child is 20 lbs, they weigh 9.1 kg and would get 90 mg of Tylenol. You should probably just ask the doctor to dose for you though. Hope he feels better soon!

  • Sleep elevated in addition to the tylenol and ibuprofen (I think that helps with the pressure). Lots of nursing - it's good that LO even wants to nurse!

You should probably just ask the doctor to dose for you though. Hope he feels better soon!

Lol, yeah, Mama RN has the meds covered ;) I was hoping for some random and crazy old wives tale that would make it all better right now haha.

We just picked up his Amoxicillin so hopefully he'll get to feeling better soon.
