How did you choose your travel system (stroller/car seat)

okay so a while back when I first started my registry I just picked a system at BRU that I liked for look.  My shower is in less than two weeks and I noticed that for some reason you can not see my system online and when I try and pull it up it does not come up.  Therefore I am looking for a new system.  I want to pick a good one.  Does anyone have any advice.

Thanks

  • So wait...your changing the travel system you really like because you cant see it online?

That seems like a dumb reason to me. Id keep the one you chose and love.

  • Did you pick it because of the pattern was appealing or because you liked how the system was designed? Personally I pick functionality, safety, and performance over patterns. All car seats sold have to meet the minimum safety guidelines but that doesn't mean all seats are created equally. I took a look at the wheels on the strollers and eliminated everything that was a bald plastic wheel. Did you hold the carrier and walk around with it to see if it fit comfortably in your arm?
  • We decided on a color that we wanted first then went from there as to see ratings ect. I picked out the top 5 on my list and my hubby narrowed down to which ones he liked.  In the end we ended up not even picking one of the ones we had originally looked at though lol. We went with a babytrend one that had great reviews, gender neutral( we aren't finding out sex) and my brother and his wife have the same one and are hard core-search for hours on ratings and safety-and were in love with theirs.  So we looked at it in the store to make sure that i, 5'4 and my hubby, 6'6 could both handle it well.. and yah then got it.

  • My husband and I wanted the seat/stroller combo. After the poor guy demonstrated all the strollers and options to us for a good thirty minutes, we actually went with a system from Wal-Mart. Main reason being, it was MUCH lighter than all the ones at BRU. If you have one picked out that you like, stick with that. Others don't have to see it online to know it's the one you like.
  • When we went to pick a system we looked at the safety features of it, how easy it was to use the stroller, and how the car seat felt caring it around.  I think my husband pulled down almost every single travel system to see how easy they were to fold the strollers down and how secure the carrier seemed in the stroller.  I also went online afterwards to read reviews of it to make sure that there were not a ton of bad reviews.  We went with a S1 by Safety 1st travel system because that my husband liked the most based on how secure the carrier is in the stroller and the fact that he didn't need any help in figuring out how to fold the stroller down.
  • I was given a Graco system by a friend and I like it pretty well. I wanted something with rubber tires that we can use for walking/jogging around the neighborhood so my MIL bought me the Graco Trekker. I know we'll use both.

  • Our limiting factor was finding a rear-facing carseat that would fit in our toyota corolla, without having to put the front passenger seat all the way forward, and a light enough stroller that I could manage take in and out of the trunk on my own with a bad back.  We chose the combi cocorro with the matching flare stroller.
  • Because the Baby Trend one I bought was broken (LOL), so a very frustrated DH went to Target returned it, and came home with a Graco system.

The Graco system we had with kids 1-3 was given away b/c we thought we were done, other wise I would have used that one again. So since we like Graco, DH went with another one.

  • Im havin a girl but i wanted something gender neutral. I wanted a stroller with a five point harness as well. I went with Baby Trend's Monkey Around travel system. It was a good height with smooth ride wheels.image

  • I hated the travel systems.  After using the same one with 2 kids I decided for this baby I was going to go with an all terrain stroller and car seat separately.  The travel system is ok for mall walking but that's about it.  And you can just use a snap n go for the car seat to do that.  I researched and tried every stroller out there this time and we went with the baby jogger city elite which fits my 6 year old.  It works great in the stores and malls too.  It was a little bit more money but if it lasts until they are 5-6yrs then it's def worth it.  My 6 year old still asks to sit sometimes.  The only thing I miss about the travel system is the big storage under it.  But, that's it.

This I agree with - I had a travel system and barely used it. I wound up buying a baby jogger (but for me it was the Bob) and it's worked for 3 years with my DD, and I will continue to use it with my new LO.
