Bedtime issues!

DS is having issues with staying overnight at Grandma and Grandpa's house, as well as having someone other than me put him to bed at night.

Background: I am a single mother and he doesn't have overnights with his father so that doesn't weigh in.  My mother watches DS while I work so he is VERY familiar with them, their house etc.

A few weeks ago he was to stay overnight and I did his bedtime routine with him at their house, and left him in bed as I would have at home and went home.  DS woke at 11pm crying for me and they couldn't settle him down so my Mom brought him home.

Last night my dad tried to put him to bed at our house (DS and mine) and he wasn't having it.  He cried for me, put up a fight etc and was up at 10:30 pm when I got home.

How do you help deal with this?  Thoughts?  HELP!!!

Re: Bedtime issues!

  • That must be rough on you!

    How old is he?

My only advice is that it's probably just a phase and to ride it out... This isn't quite the same, but if I'm home, neither of my girls will let anyone but me do their bedtime routine and put them to bed. If DH tries, it's major crying for Mommy. It gets tiring, so I can imagine it's even harder on you! Hang in there :)

  • The only thing I can think of is to have you do it with them and then slowly have your parents take over more and more of the routine while you are still in the room and then after a while, start leaving the room during parts of the routine and let your parents do it.  Work this way until you are in the house but your parents are doing the whole routine.
